Any livable single family dwelling there started at a million dollars. You could buy a total roach infested shit shack for a half million but unless you were a hobo you wouldn't want to live in it. Groceries were double the price, clothes, rent was huge for a hell hole. Cost of living was insane high.
When I was there in 2002 we went over the bay to San Francisco and as we were walking down the street my brother told me that he read in the paper that every third person in the city was a millionaire. Then he said take a look around, every third person you see is a millionaire. That's when it hits you.
Everybody there had a $50,000+ car. The average guy was never going to own a house so they spent it all on cars and clothes. It was the craziest thing I've ever seen.
