Schizotypal Personality Disorder
Has anybody else here been diagnosed with Schizotypal Personality Disorder?
I believe that it is essentially a bullsh*t diagnosis, given to people whom threaten their narrow little world view & whom challenge them. While there is some validity to the social retardedness & isolation often present in those labeled as such, there is no dysfunction in being quirky.

Symptoms of Schizotypal Personality Disorder

The following specific diagnostic criteria are reproduced verbatim (except for codings and page references) from the DSM-IV, the immediate predessor of the current DSM-IV TR (where ‘IV TR’ indicates fourth edition, text revision).
Diagnostic Criteria for Schizotypal Personality Disorder

A. A pervasive pattern of social and interpersonal deficits marked by acute discomfort with, and reduced capacity for, close relationships as well as by cognitive or perceptual distortions and eccentricities of behavior, beginning by early adulthood and present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by five (or more) of the following:

ideas of reference (excluding delusions of reference)
odd beliefs or magical thinking that influences behavior and is
inconsistent with subcultural norms (e.g., superstitiousness, belief in clairvoyance, telepathy, or “sixth sense”; in children and adolescents, bizarre fantasies or preoccupations)
unusual perceptual experiences, including bodily illusions
odd thinking and speech (e.g., vague, circumstantial, metaphorical, overelaborate, or stereotyped)
suspiciousness or paranoid ideation
inappropriate or constricted affect
behavior or appearance that is odd, eccentric, or peculiar
lack of close friends or confidants other than first-degree relatives
excessive social anxiety that does not diminish with familiarity and tends to be associated with paranoid fears rather than negative judgments about self

There is no dysfunction unless the person presenting these symptoms says they are causing enough discomfort to them that they seek treatment.

WahooOoo, just figured out how to quote!

Anyways, what do you struggle with, if you don't mind me asking? I do believe that meds aren't necessary, but i'm getting therapy to help me with my discomfort with the humans.

I had a year of therapy, it helps to talk about it. As to the humans, I can be of little help in that regard. I think some of us are just meant to be loners, something to do with, loving yourself for real. Maybe people are like pillars, they hold us up, then the universe takes them away, once they are all gone you fly or flop imho of course.

beautiful news here tonite--2 succcess stories
and you will continue.

one in here with schizophrenia is totaled due to the years of court ordered meds
and of course is back "inside"due to "flipping"
and the persona can change back and forth in the blink of an eye---incredible,tragic and dangerous.....
BUT
his degree of this illness will never be yours.

simply keep doing WHAT WORKS....his situation hasn't been remedied by anything/with or without psychotropics-
and God bless.

P.S.--as for the humans ? don't sweat it.
i don't even have a freekin door bell or cell phone--
sometimes i won't even answer the landline phone..
and couldn't care anyless.
yeah,i have a family and 2 good friends and will interact IF i freeekin feel like it.
there's not too many things we can control in life and chosing to be social or not is one of them.
don't feel limitations due to what i would simply say is being "shy".

I do hope that he eventually finds something that helps him ...the bin is NOT a fun place to be, even if containment is occasionally necessary.
I actually did some soul retrieval work with a shaman that was healing for me.

I would never ever get a cell phone *shudders at the thought* I rather like my answering machine. I do have one human friend that i get along with. We tolerate each other well even though she isn't quirky like me. I would like to do some volunteer work (insectarium or botanical gardens, since i'd rather hang with plants & buggies) or try out a crafting workshop, but i'm not quite there yet...

It's funny of how accurately I fill the bill of this list.
But then, I must add that the treatment I am actualy undergoing is in part responsible for the schizoid personality as the medication has side effect. The meds make me live like I'm in some kind of bubble, so keep in mind that meds have their lot of responsabilities too.
