First time Uncle here my nephew was born last week...
When I received the news, deep down inside, I felt a great sense of sadness; an almost sickening feeling.

Clearly, that's not a normal response.

It should be a happy moment; a joyous occasion; a time to celebrate life and wish the family nothing but happiness.

Of course, I kept those feelings deep down inside and put on a fake smile, as the rest of my family was on cloud nine, and still are.

I've become so cynical of our world, a baby being born can't even bring a smile to my face anymore.

Anyone else have this sort of reaction to new babies being born these days?

It is a happy time. Congratulations on becoming an Uncle.hf

I know the world today can make you feel sadness, but I think once you are around the baby a while you will feel different.

Being an UNCLE, do you have any important conspiracy information that you will be sharing with us? xx

No, I am not a dad.

My wife and I decided quite a few years ago that we did not want kids.

We love kids though. Someone else's kid(s) that is. Kids gravitate to my wife like bees on honey anytime we're around them. She's a natural.

We're just really, really selfish I guess.

We both think we'd be terrible parents because of that.

Yeah I am in the same boat, i am an Uncle. It's cool and easy, I do wonder if there is some delightful light hidden behind our selfishness, somethign beautiful called Son or Daughter. I dunno.

As a fellow uncle I say welcome to the club. When I was a child my father would make me say uncle too escape toe holds and other tortures. I wondered why until I became an uncle.
As for advice, well do not sleep at their house for the first year for you will get very little. Keep us posted I have advice for the years to come. My resume includes being my nieces and nephews best uncle, unfortunately I was the only one willing to play with them.
