that's 6 years to travel 1.5 million miles ? I make that an average of 28mph.

However if the 30,000mph figure is correct then 6 years ago it would have been 30,000mph x 24hours x 365 day x 6 years = 1.5 billion.

How could they have seen something 400metres wide from 1.5 billion miles away? Tha's a tiny amount of sky to be observing

From the information that I get...on 11/9/11 Elenin, Earth, MERCURY,Venus and Asteroid YU55 will be aligned.If this is true..we should see a few 9's popping up here and there.

The AZ meteorite was 40M after going through the Earth's atmosphere.

Have you thought what the size would be of a 400M asteroid after going through Earth's atmosphere? Significantly smaller.

IF it comes in straight it will only be in the atmosphere for 36 seconds and that is counting the atmosphere out at 300 miles. In reality 80% of the thick atmosphere is only up 10miles so your talking just over a second that it will actually be in the thick atmosphere IF it comes in straight.

Not that it will come in straight but…

That's what I figured, but the countdown on Slooh is saying 3 more hours. I'm confused.

this concept is the same as a bullet passing through
clothing and expecting the clothing to slow it enough to prevent death but something that big and that fast is just not going to slow that much due to our atmosphere hell even if it did slow enough the resulting fireball would still
smak the crap out of us like tunguska only much much worse.
