I was honestly saying WTF in my head...I texted him why...He said "EArthquakes an shit is supposed to be goin down" I immidiately looked up on the net and something about comet elenin, we're supposed to get caught in it's tail of debris?...ANd it's going to cause massive earthquakes today...I cried my eyes out...Dropped to my knees and prayed for my family and myself...I thought everything was supposed to be ohkay after the astroid passed!

Would you at least admit that this planet HAS indeed been hit by asteroids and comets in the past? You act and sound off on this board quite arrogantly that nothing ever happens, you are all crazy rants.

I'd like you to consider that FEMA has spent BILLIONS on prepping for something, including water body bags. They don't do that for nothing, especially when our country is broke. They wouldn't spend that money for "exercises". Nor would Norway building seed vaults. Also, why did the Military classify NEO's?

How about the insane weather all over this planet. I am no spring chicken and I and my neighbors all agree that this is not normal : record floods, storms, droughts and all the other earth changes going on - we have never seen a period like this.

There's nothing to worry about, Elenin was 4.7 million kilometers above our orbital plane when it crossed the radius of our orbit; Earth won't be intersecting the remnants of its tail and even if we did it would only produce a meteor shower.

You're putting words in my mouth. This asteroid is not a concern in our lifetimes, just like Elenin was not a concern. I deal with this in real life too; people know I'm an amateur astronomer, they know I know my shit, so they come to me when they hear these claims and they start to get concerned about it. I never said anyone was crazy for believing these claims, just uninformed. I don't blame them for that either, and to be honest I'm glad to be in a position to help.

Everything from warfare to the complete meltdown of civilization in the wake of a Carrington event could cause that without earth being hit by any asteroids or comets, particularly these particular asteroids and comets. They didn't. Yes, I already know the article you're thinking of and I suggest you actually read it, not just the headline. The classification had to do with data from spy satellites looking down at the earth and catching fireball events, it only showed space rocks that had already hit the atmosphere and burnt up, it had nothing to do with NEOs.

I seriously wonder how you even manage to rationalize in your head that NEOs are now "classified," yet I was able to track and broadcast a view of one just last night without anyone trying to stop me... I even generated and published orbital data for it beforehand!

I calculated the orbit of YU55 for myself, using nothing but amateur data. This was a specific claim, you're trying to generalize it in order to establish a strawman position.

I'm about to calculate the trajectory YU55 took last night according to nothing but my own observational data and show that I was right all along (as was TBar and a number of other rational posters), how "arrogant" will that make me?

No, it's too dim now to do the kind of tracking that I did last night. It would take much longer integrations to capture it now = no good for live viewing.

Ohhhh I understand...So we dont' need to fear it anymore do we? I still hear some rumors about it making a Uturn

It's not going to make a u-turn, it's headed out of the earth-moon system at a speed considerably greater than escape velocity at its radius from the earth. I'm currently collecting astrometrics from the video last night with which I'll run my own calculation of the orbit and show that the approach trajectory agreed with the JPL prediction as well as the amateur-based orbit I calculated beforehand.

No, there's no lunar eclipse tomorrow, and even if there were it wouldn't mean we're all going to die. That's the first I've even heard of that claim.

I think the frequent poster above and many others including myself can make an excellent case study of the mass hysteria generated recently. Wouldn't put it past our overlords to actually give us all these little hints/red herrings like the name elenin or what's on the simpsons, and they just watch and laugh their butts off at us running around with our little heads chopped off.

I'd tell 'em all where to go, but out of respect of astro's thread and excellent work, I'll just leave it at that.

Some guy on youtube...He was showing his calender or whatever...And showing how a full moon and what not will be tomorrow and it might be a blood red moon...Because it some how correlates with the bible or soemthing...
