Mayonnaise — yay or nay?
My wife thinks I have a problem with it, but I can't get enough of one of the best condiments ever invented.

Thank you France (and Spain too)!

Homemade fries and fancy sauce? I could eat that all day!

Mayo, one of my food guilty pleasures.

Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars.

I'd like to go quietly in my sleep, like grandpa did. Not screaming in terror like the people in the back seat of the car he was driving.

Me too, too much makes me sick. I like to add a bit of mustard to the mayo & mix it together. Gives it a nice little kick.

See.. I can't stomach mustard. I'm fine with honey mustard... but just yellow mustard tastes awful to me.

Re: Mayonnaise — yay or nay?
Mayo. seems like a necessity on all sandwiches, except PBJ. That said, the soybean oil always worries me, since most soybeans are GMO. Whole Foods sells healthier mayo., but it doesn't taste the same of course.

Love Roasted Red Peppers. I cook breaded chicken cutlets,
top it with roasted peppers & a nice slice of homemade mozzarella, some thinly sliced tomatoes on the top of the bread, add some spices and throw it in the over for like 5-10 minutes. Yummm

Another favority is turkey & swiss on jeweish rey with russion dressing & cole slaw.

Now, I' hungry.

Seems a rare thing has happened: I've found a 2nd person who likes mayonnaise!

It seems like most of the time when it comes to the mention of mayo people are either apathetic or downright hate the stuff.

I recall, as a (Gentile) kid in NYC 40 years ago, going to a local Jewish deli, one that specialized in hot dogs and cold cuts sandwiches, and asking for mayo on my sandwich. The guy taking the order looked at me in utter bewilderment, as if I'd spoken Chinese to him. No mayo -- mustard only!

A few years later, as a teen out to dinner with some Jewish friends, we went to a restaurant specializing in burgers. I'll never forget, after asking the waitress for even MORE mayo on the side, one of my Jewish buddies cleverly asking, "You should have a burger with your mayonnaise!" LOL

Then, about a year or so ago, I read an article about dieting which contained a quote by a -- you guessed it, *Jewish* -- doctor who described mayonnaise as "the world's greatest fat delivery system."

From all the above you've probably gathered that my impression is that jewish people aren't big mayonnaise eaters. Any theories, if my theory's indeed true, on why this might be? Kosher dietary laws, maybe?

Having said that ... someone already cited some Japanese brand (was it called "Kewpie"?) of mayo as being their favorite. My longtime personal favorite remains Best Foods Real Mayonnaise (although I slip once in a while and refer to it as it's known on the east coast and everywhere east of the Rockies: "Hellmann's Mayonnaise.") I don't know exactly what it is they put in it but Hellmann's definitely knows the secret recipe for great mayo. Competing brands may cost almost half as much but it's the Best Foods/Hellmann's I always buy.

One final thing: the first time I discovered the possibilities of how truly magical mayo could be was when I ordered a meal in Barcelona, Spain and it came with an absolutely delicious garlic mayonnaise.

Arriba la mayonesa!
