TBar1984 User ID: 1537588 United States 11/16/2011 05:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have never heard a more obvious and blatant attempt to try and twist things around LOL THE HEADLINES SAY WHAT THEY SAY EINSTEIN So here's a question for lucus, if space rocks are classified, why was I not silenced or prosecuted after showing, measuring, calculating, and publishing the orbit of the officially "potentially hazardous asteroid" 2005 YU55. Furthermore, why does the article you mentioned specifically say that the classified data only applies to spy satellites that are looking down at earth, thus it does not apply to space rocks that are still incoming, but only to fireballs of rocks that have already hit the atmosphere? THE SUB HEADLINE OF THE STORY SAYS THIS Scientists say research into the threat from space will be hampered. AND THIS... For 15 years, scientists have benefited from data gleaned by U.S. classified satellites of natural fireball events in Earth's atmosphere — but no longer. AND THIS... "It's baffling to us why this would suddenly change," said one scientist familiar with the work. "It's unfortunate because there was this great synergy ... a very good cooperative arrangement. Systems were put into dual-use mode where a lot of science was getting done that couldn't be done any other way. It's a regrettable change in policy." Scientists say not only will research into the threat from space be hampered, but public understanding of sometimes dramatic sky explosions will be diminished, perhaps leading to hype and fear of the unknown. OBVIOUSLY, the US Gov does not have the resources to regulate millions of backyard astonomers... c'mon, come up with something better. This applies to people with "REAL" credentials. Let's see, 15 years ago would have been just after the breakup of the Soviet Union. Back when we were supposed to all be 'friends'. Maybe things have changed since then? Oh wait, what's all this talk about WWIII I've been hearing about? Maybe we are not all 'friends'? Maybe we shouldn't provide potential threats with a study in re-entry trajectories they couldn't pay for if they wanted to? Think about it. Maybe we shouldn't freely distribute re-entry data from our most sophisticated instruments to any Joe Blow. What a concept! |

This is what happened in 1991 - Dissolution of the Soviet Union: "The dissolution of the Soviet Union was the disintegration of the federal political structures and central government of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), resulting in the independence of all fifteen republics of the Soviet Union between March 11, 1990 and December 25, 1991. The dissolution of the world's largest socialist state also marked a formal end to the Cold War..." Now answer mine (please) or in all due respect buzz off. If you think we have the capability to detect every small asteroid before impact you're sadly mistaken. It was a big deal when 2008 yu55 was detected prior to impact, first and only time that has happened, though small impacts like that do occur more frequently, our ability to detect rocks that small is marginal. The fact remains that asteroids that could hit earth are not classified. Explain why my 2005 YU55 data is not classified even though it could hit earth in future generations, and why apophis is not classified even though it could hit earth in our lifetime, and why 2008 tc3 was not classified even though it could have been a large rock set to hit that december it was still public information which amateurs took advantage of immediately. I noticed you already ignored that last point entirely. Interesting. Alright, gotta shut off my phone now, see you tonight. |
UnfrozenCavemanLawyer User ID: 5508645 United States 11/16/2011 05:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Amusingly, your own quote mining lucus shows that the article is about fireballs, rocks already hitting the atmosphere, not rocks that are still out there and incoming. Why is my data on YU55 not silenced if it's classified? Why doesn't the government even try to come after me the way they do with julian? I don't have my own server, it's out there on youtube, easily taken down. The data agrees with orbital data published publicly by jpl, it's not classified at all. Quoting: Astromut Well OBVIOUSLY if they know something is not going to hit there is no reason to classify it. C'mon, you're talking apples and oranges here. How about this... HOW COME AN ASTEROID HIT COLOMBIA WITH NO WARNING?!?! And left a 300 foot crater. How come that was buried in Western media? YOU WOULD THINK that this would be an EXCELLENT CHANCE for scientists to study the crater and the effects. YOU WOULD THINK that this would be TOP STORY ON EVERY MAJOR NEWS SITE. But it was not. And before you say it never happened... here is PROOF. What crater? The video makes no mention of a crater, just eyewitness accounts of a streak of light across the sky. Probably was a meteorite burning up in the atmosphere, that's not too uncommon. After a brief search on the internet, I could not find a single image of any crater associated with this Colombia fireball sighting. However, there was a crater made by a 1-2 meter rock hitting the Earth in Peru in 2007 ( [link to en.wikipedia.org] that certainly wasn't censored...images of it are everywhere. You can even see part of the recovered meteorite in the above link, And scientists did study it intently. Since it was only a 1-2 meter rock, there is no way something that small could have been tracked and predicted to land in advance. |

La versión preliminar de la Policía de Huauchinango habla de que el impacto ocurrió a las 15:30 horas, sin dejar lesionados pese al derrumbre de un puente y un cráter de aproximadamente 30 metros. |

And before you say it never happened... here is PROOF. There is something strange going on in regards to all of this. On July 18, 2011 I was on GLP on a thread about a meteor somewhere in Kenya and when I went to click on the government link for information I got this message: ACCESS DENIED! Considering the possible security risk of your visit the access has been restricted. Your IP address has been logged. Being just you average law abiding citizen this spooked me a little and I wasn't the only one to have this issue, here is the thread. Kudos to you for finding your own error and correcting it. I was frightened and confused over your initial confusion about the Colombia and Mexico incidents. I wouldn't say the two events were unreported, as you were able to find links to them so quickly, so someone obviously is reporting them. Still no crater photos of the Colombia event, nor the Mexico event. Funny how websites claiming 100-300 foot craters were formed never actually show an image of the crater. And I found a link saying there was no crater found in the Mexico event ( [link to e-consulta.com] from the same e-consulta.com website you linked to above. Regardless of what your opinions are, its "his" truth or story, and its obviously a great discussion topic. Please, if you have "legitimate" and challenging questions for *LUCAS* please submit them in this thread, and I or another mod will ask them tonight. I do not agree with everything he has put together, but atleast he is putting something out there for all of us to think about and discuss. That is what makes GLP unique. Another thing, all of the VC Mods, Phenn, Hubnutz, Jadio, 2342, Jay, Kingman-Art,and Yobbo work hard to bring in different guests, ask them questions, and let you the members interact. We are not paid for this, we do this for the community as to bring better discussion to this forum. All I ask, is please to respect GLPVC guests, and that you ask great questions. You dont have to like the guests, but please, be more constructive to the topic and to this forum. You all rock!!!!!! the direction this thread is taking makes me wonder if you guys are going to be able to keep this chat from crashing. i'm going to stay awake and i hope to hell people act right so we can have a decent session. i want to hear every single side of this issue. everyone needs to and act like adults.
