Breaking! Massive fire in Reno - 20+ homes burn

All schools closed.

Evacuations underway.

I am trying to pin this, but too many are pinned at the moment.

We are getting wind gusts up to 60MPH and this willbe ongoing all day.

This is a 400 acre fire in the south part of Reno.

From RGJ text:

Reno High School at capacity, evacuate to Galena High School.

Channel 8 reports over 100 people at RHS and NOT full.

Now THIS is doom.

The wind is making this a catastrophic event.

I live north of Reno and have a great deal of damage in our backyard. Fences down, things moved from one side of the yard to the other. I hope the roof is intact.

I can't imagine looking out to see an approaching fire like many people here did.

Governor: State of Emergency declared.

National Guard troops may be called in.

Per channel 8 news

Reports of more homes on fire.

The wind is picking up embers and starting multiple fires.

Everything is very dry here and ignites easily.

And so it begins....

I'm staying at a friend's place in sparks.

I have evacuees at my home now. Sheriff dept came to their door and told them to leave "now".

This is really bad.

I want to say that I have had this on TV all morning. The electricity has flashed off twice. If they have any idea how many houses are gone, they are not saying.

They did say some of the homes burned are in the multi-million dollar catagory.

Than people tell me you don't need a bug out bag or car kit lol.

You are right you don't need one you are better of waiting for the FEMA Meat wagons to pick you up and drop you off a you nearest stadium so you can dehydrate and step on dead bodies and feces while waiting to get evacuated for a week

There is a disaster expert talking on tv right now.

He says a disaster can strike at any time. He mentions the solar maximum and the sun can cause the grid to fail at any time for months if not years. According to him the last occurance of its ability to bring down the grid was 1920.

He is talking about a Carrington event - without saying Carrington event.

My daughter lives in Wellington, NV, which is approx. 50 miles south of Reno as the crow flies. Her husband was coming home last night after dark and he saw 5 extremely bright flashes just to the north of their home. Not sure if this occured near power lines or not. Another "possiblity", given the heightend war tensions in the world right now, is some type of EMP "attack". Know this is a stretch, but......? Another possibility is the use of some type of Tesla dome over the west coast area which could explain the "grid patterns" in the high altitude clouds pattens. Just speculation, but.....?

What is the cause of the fires? Is this area known for fire outbreaks? I know forest fires regularly happen, but does Reno have forests? (Not familiar with the area.)

With all the wind, my best guess for the cause is exploding power transformers.

In this wind and as dry as it is, it only takes a spark to get things going.
