can you explain further? like, so no other countries currently use this style of reactor why would iran be looking to build one? they are cheaper maybe?

also what is their difference from, say, a reactor in the USA or Japan?

the main two types of reactors are light water reactors and breeder reactors. "Breeder" just means it breeds, reproduces nuclear fuel.

YOu are right I think, Breeder reactors can be alot more efficient, produce less waste, and produce cheap, unlimited fuel they don't even have to mine. I think everyone is so scared of them being used for making bombs though. And possibly afraid of everyone having an unlimited, eternal supply of energy for independent economic growth.

A breeder reactor surrounds the core with a blanket of material, that turns into nuclear fuel as it's irradiated by the fissioning core.

IN The breeder burner cycle, the core is surrounded by highly concentrated nuclear waste that is destroyed and neutralized by the core reaction.

so it's pretty complicated but there's several ways the reactors can be set up to accomplish a variety of tasks.

after reading up on this, I realize, Breeder reactors in the long run produce less waste, but I suppose they could be more dangerous if they blew up.

I guess the reason they build alot of light water reactors is just because they are simple and cheaper, but breeder reactors are better.
