U.S. Supercommittee Ready to Announce Failure -- Market Crash, Moody's Downgrade?
...The 12-member bipartisan supercommittee likely will announce today that it can’t reach agreement on deficit savings, according to a Democratic aide. The aide, who wasn’t authorized to discuss internal matters publicly and requested not to be identified, said in an e-mail that it was highly unlikely that the committee’s talks could be salvaged...

This committtee was little more than a delaying tactic to begin with. I never had much faith in their ability to reach a decision, let alone have the agreement pass Congree or the White House.

Wonder what "kick the can" tactic is queued next?

The package has to be in the hands of the Congressional Budeget Office today, so it can be tabulated & scored in order to make the deadline of the 23rd.

I expect the market to start the plumment today followed soon by a Moody's downgrade sooner rather than later.

Both parties are to blame and I would not find it surprising if neither wanted this to succeed. Now both sides can point fingers during the campaigns going into November 2012.

Morning, Jane. I still can't believe they won't find a way to push it a little further, but this does smell doomy.

Either way, 5 stars and a pin suggest.

Thanks, Rev.

I have always questioned why a deadline the day before Thanksgiving? Perhaps it is orchestrated to have the most people possible distracted from their failure as possible. Also, nice long weekend where nobody can retrieve or shift their funds.

Turkey day is better even than Christmas as it includes everyone, Christmas allows those people who do not celebrate that holiday to be watching. Thanksgiving, they are all stuufed with heavy food, the guys are watching sports, the women are out shopping. Thge only ones paying any attention are the GLPrs.

Mornin' everybody.

This is indeed curious. After watching the charade last time, I can't help but feel that they'll pull out a card at the last minute so they can past themselves on the back and say "Look at us, we are heroes."

If indeed it does fail....uh...I'll be the guy speeding down the road to his FFL to get an AR. I'd expect the next dose of war to be right around the corner if they do not use the "hero card".

Gotta scoot out to work in a few more minutes...but the futures look sick to me.

How thay always do business. Drop bad news after the market close ... or better yet ... after the close of business before a long weekend.

The thing is, most people aho are watching this have their eye on the 23rd. They do not realize this must go to the Congressional Budget Office prior to the deadline to be checked for accuracy. I use the term accuracy lightly.

Have a great day! Yes, the futures are ugly & metals are way down. This is telling to me because metals & stocks will both fall in the real deal downdraft. When thos metals do plummet, try to buy some at the cheaper price because they will rebound as a safe have as the house of cards tumbles.

Morning Jane! Again, you've pretty much summed it up. Elected or un-elected, any "super-committee" that can use a pocket calculator, is always going to come to the same mathematical conclusion, ergo this was a stall tactic from the onset. Neglecting performer error, math does not lie. Pretty much...ever. Mathematically, no matter which way you turn it, we be F^&#ED.

Because the republicans don't want any cuts in defense/homeland security and don't want that the bush tax cuts get put back into place.

The liberals don't want to cut into government services without any concessions from republican side.

So in all it's just a general meltdown of politics on both sides. Kinda hard to blame it on a single party.

Mornin Jane, everyone.

It's mind-boggling to think all of this is somehow coincidence. There's just no way. The US debt bomb building- just hit 15 trillion- and now we have this 'super'committee made up of a bunch of incompetent fools who were guaranteed failures from the start when it came to reaching any kind of decisions = for sure credit rating downgrade.

China isn't getting much attention but they have a housing bubble that is about to pop that will dwarf the US crisis 3 years ago...and inflation is spiraling out of control.

Don't even need to mention the EU.

I don't usually throw dates around but I'm saying now we have a maximum of 6-8 weeks before all this explodes IMO.

They might be able to delay it until after the new year, but they won't get much farther. All of this is on purpose. Just waiting to see how much "order" they restore out of the next round of chaos.

Well, step back for a second and look at what they SAY they're trying to do...

They're not even proposing to cut spending. They're proposing to cut PROPOSED SPENDING - which we couldn't afford in the first place.

The whole thing is fantasy from the start. It's a shell game - a fraud. Even IF they agreed, it would amount to nothing more than INCREASED spending. They're not cutting SHIT!
