Giant, Dinosaur-Age Islands Found in Deep Sea
Giant, sunken pieces of an ancient continent from the time of the dinosaurs may have been discovered deep in the Indian Ocean, scientists say.

The two fragments, called microcontinents, are possibly leftovers from when India, Antarctica, and Australia were part of a supercontinent known as Gondwana (see a map of Earth during this time.)

The plateaus, the combined size of West Virginia, have long been known to cartographers as the Batavia Seamount and the Gulden Draak—or Golden Dragon.

Very interesting article! Read more:

MISLEADING TITLE

I'm tempted to 1 star this just for the "may have been".

Might, may, could, possibly have been, scientists say....argh. gaah

But I'll 5 star it coz dinosaurs are cool.

Well, how can they be sure when its 2500 metres below the sealevel! I think the possibility that once dinosaurs lived there or even lemuria was located there is high

Crappy pin, micro continents all around. Just google: "micro continents wiki" and you'll have it all.

Well, I liked it..
Thanks for a nice, morning read.
The youngster said angrily " If our founding Fathers could see what is going on, they would roll over in their graves!"
The Ol'Timer shook his head and smiled. " No, they would be grabbing their guns".

its harder/more expensive to explore the bottom of the ocean than it is to explore space and the moon. we've really maybe collectively explored 2-3% of it. thanks for the article.

Actually, its easier to go into space compared to deep sea, space has VEEEERY low pressures, while deep sea has REALLY BIG amounts of pressure.
And if you compare how much of the sea (2-3%) to how much of the space we have explored you will see space (0.00000...1% repeating of course) exploration aint that easy.

So these former chunks of land surface are at 2500 feet depth. Guess that takes care of the expanding planet b.s. (actually really old b.s. that predated plate tectonics and got hammered when plate tectonics explained more observations than the planet as a balloon nonsense).

That's pretty cool.
