Black Helicopters - Day & Night along the South Metro part of the Front Range
I live south of Denver, along the front range, about 20 min from downtown Denver and 20-25 minutes north of Colorado Springs. For the past 5-6 days, day and night, very loud, low black helicopters have been doing big loops around our area. Over the past 6 months or so, I have gotten used to the sound of low-flying military jets over our area, which was weird anyway, but not this. This is new. This isn't a once-a-day flyover, either, but this occurs, to the best of my knowledge, probably 5-10 times a day. It is always a solo copter and they are large and jet black, no markings. The latest episode of this happened about 2 hours ago and once I heard it over our house, I ran to the windows to see which way it was heading and grabbed binos. It came from the west, did a big semi-circle towards I-25, and headed west again. Through the binos, I saw that what it was actually doing was following CO-85 or Santa Fe, then disappeared out of sight. It was so low, it flew much lower than news copters do when reporting on traffic jams & such.

Looking for people in the CO area who have been seeing these lately, but if anyone else can post on them being in their area & it is unusual for the area, please reply. What could this be about? We have had a bit of odd military activity here in recent months, but this is just a strange addition, as it doesn't seem like they are doing any sort of "normal" exercise of any kind.

THanks :)

Sure they are helicopters and not just a herd of geese?

Just had two fly over Aurora about 2 hours ago. Double prop military planes, looked like dark green or black. They were really low and shook the windows as they flew by. They were going west. I'm used to loud aircraft flying over since we live so close to Buckley, but this was weird.

It seemed like the ones I saw had two propellers that were roughly the same size, so I don't think the ones in the video are the same ones I saw today (but, I don't normally pay attention to stuff like this so I very well could be wrong!).

So sorry, didn't realize there had been any new posts to this! Very interesting about your "sighting" in Aurora. It has continued unabated here and yesterday, for the first time, they were low and rattling the house but could not seem them, as they were not marked with lights (this was about 8:15 or so last night.)

They seem to do a big loop for the most part, coming from the near East (by Parker) to the W/NW by Castle Rock, head just over the foothills near us or by Sedalia and head back again the way they came. This is what makes it strange, as it doesn't seem like they are necessarily coming from the Springs or other bases.

I haven't seen any other helicopters, but you're right...they weren't coming from the usual direction. The ones I saw had to have been coming from Buckley or DIA.

Yes.

I have seen low flying jets for several years now. Within the last few months ; more frequent.

I use to commute into Denver from south area and did frequently see black helicopters over I25 as early as last august 2011.

I dont see them anymore because I no longer commute into Denver but I have seen an occasional one fly as I am out running errands.

They've been flying more often over our neighborhood, sounds like lawnmowers hovering over the house :) Noticed something tonight as they were flying over, they don't have lights on anymore. Wouldn't they need lights on at night, especially being so close to Centennial airport? I would think it would be dangerous to fly around at night without lights on.

I am going to have my video camera ready from now on, so I can get a video. Don't know what I can get today or tomorrow, as we're supposed to get anywhere rom 10 to 16" of snow where we are. Thanks for keeping this thread active :)

Re: Black Helicopters - Day & Night along the South Metro part of the Front Range
I saw a low slow flying (quiet plane) a few weeks ago and it was ominous. There is something flying low over (with sound) each night too. Years ago a black helicoptor flew nightly over the city I was in so I got used to it.
Maybe I will try to see what it is next time (tonight). I live not far from an air force base now. Kinda glad I moved from Colorado I guess. Keep posting so we can find out what is going on. I am curious.

Thanks, I will :) Nothing today, but snow started around 5 pm and it has been very heavy so far down here by Castle Rock, nearly white-out conditions, so I don't think there will be much to tell about tonight!

Re: Black Helicopters - Day & Night along the South Metro part of the Front Range
Theres a missile base further North, called NATE and when they move supplies at night they have the helicopters circle. Youll notice the pattern when the rail road or a delivery of supplies is made.

When I vacationed there I was told of the missile base and heard the rail road at nights and we saw the loaded rail cards haul off missiles. And the helicopters circling making sure the haul went ok.

Nothing to fear, Just few know about it.

Yeah, doubt there will be deliveries when its snowing. They pretty much have to haul in clear conditions.

Have fun in the snow ! I live out on the warmer coast now and health prevents me from taking a ski trip. I envy you guys !

I remember a wacky religious guy protesting NATE. and they have done public tours, so nothing heebie jeebie or secret about it, Its just little known

When you see the helicopters on a clear night, listen for the train. And youll piece it together.
