Happy Thanksgiving Everybody. For those of you who aren't familiar with Thanksgiving, this is an American holiday we celebrate to honor the very first time we swindled the Native American Indians out of their belongings and land. We invited them to dinner, they brought most the food, we gave them sexually transmitted diseases and introduced them to alcohol, many of them got sick, some of them died, we took their land and raped their women, they made vows under heaven to make peace, we lied like hell and trapped them all behind barbed wire fences, and so on and so forth. Now, America today doesn't remember that particular history SOOOOO...we just celebrate Thanksgiving based on what we're currently thankful for. So...what are you thankful for GLP? Choose from the poll or add your own!

Anybody have any strange Turkey Day plans? Stuff your bird with something unique? Drink a certain beverage? Have after dinner barfing contests? Share what you do that others might find unique or even strange.

Happy Thanksgiving Idgits!

I am thankful everyday.

I volunteered to be an elf next month.
We're taking children from my town shopping.
These kids don't have much and I am hoping
to be a little sunshine to them that day.

I finally remembered how Mom got all the sugar and spices mixed in with the apples in the apple pie. Put half sugar and spice in bottom of bowl your cutting apple slices into; when half full, stir with fork. Then fill other half (3/4) and stir in remaining sugar and spices.

Also remembered her little secret of adding drops from fresh lemon to apples that are mild/have NO tartness, especially at end of the season, like now.

Eagle...good vittles on the recipe! El Hierro tsunami? Honestly...I don't know. It's doing a lot of really strange things over there. So far the scientists seem to be baffled by it more than anything.

Best Turkey Ever? Cook it for 3/4 of the total time BREAST DOWN in your pan. Turn it over for last bit of time. Most moist and flavorful turkey you'll ever eat!

I didn't see the option i'd pick..so i'll add my own.

I'm thankful that my ancestors (or decade ago generation grandfather)that survived the genocide of native americans and survived the walk down to the trail of tears to oklahoma where my family still resides..If it wasn't for his strength and survival me and my family wouldn't be in exsistance today.

Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
All things are bound together.
All things connect.

Chief Seattle, 1854

When all the trees have been cut down,
when all the animals have been hunted,
when all the waters are polluted,
when all the air is unsafe to breathe,
only then will you discover you cannot eat money.

Cree Prophecy

"Our land is everything to us... I will tell you one of the things we remember on our land. We remember that our grandfathers paid for it - with their lives." - John Wooden Leg, Cheyenne

You must teach your children that the ground beneath their feet is the ashes of your grandfathers.
So that they will respect the land, tell your children that the earth is rich with the lives of our kin.
Teach your children what we have taught our children, that the earth is our mother.
Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth.
If men spit upon the ground, they spit upon themselves. ~Iroquois~

Has nothing to do with Thanksgiving which was a day of peace between the Pilgrims and Natives. You are looking for Columbus Day.

Re: GLP's Happy Thanksgiving Thread: What Are You Thankful For?
Nothing strange. First, the husband and our 21-year-old son went bird hunting and took the wire-haired pointer with them so I was free to cook all morning without a dog under my feet. Then they came home and cleaned the burs out of the dog and their birds and we ate the turkey dinner. This afternoon, we sipped on coffee and read the sales flyers in the paper, took naps, and put up the tree for the backyard Christmas display. That's about it - a nice, relaxing day.
