I've basically been around school kids all my life but I know some, rather well, who haven't. If I could only wish for one, I'd wish for a Kimber Stainless Target II 10mm. I'd carry that baby in a Milt Sparks Summer Special Holster, load the first five with 200 grain and the last five with 135 grain Doubletaps, but hey, that's just me.

Actually I was wrong. 1400 FPS is the Gold Dot # 54234 out of G31. It can be handloaded a little faster, but the 520FtLbs of ME is correct. The charts for 357 SIG you are looking at probably show velocity from a 4 inch barrel. G31 is 4.5 with polygonal bore so its a little faster.

If you have not fired a pistal much or at all you want a stupid proof gun. The Glock is stupid proof. That's why its a police issued sidearm.

The 1911 is a tricky gun to use due to its single action only mechanism. if you aren't cocked and locked at all times its no better than a brick.

For the average non-shooter, I would suggest the Ruger LCR. Light weight, accurate at short distances and portable. Affordable too. .38 Special is a common caliber and a solid man stopper.
