Just in :- Illegal to Release Helium Filled Party Ballons
It has just been announced here that it will be now illegal to release a helium filled party ballon. The fine stands at $200 dollars. Helium ballons float up to between 10000 to 12000 feet before freezing and shattering into pieces no larger than a fingernail. The latex they are made from is biodegradable. No more children watching the ballon drift of into the never never, letting their mind wander with thoughts about the fate of their ballon ( i just ruined that like Santa Clause with the 10000 to 12000 foot bizo anyway? but regardless. This is bullshit.

Please pin for the sake of other bullshit laws...what is this world comming too. Talk about a revenue raising police state. just incredible.

Is helium worse than Fukushima? Helium isn't the issue here anyway.

From Wiki...

Natural abundanceHelium is the second most abundant element in the known Universe (after hydrogen), constituting 23% of its baryonic mass.[4] The vast majority of helium was formed by Big Bang nucleosynthesis one to three minutes after the Big Bang. As such, measurements of its abundance contribute to cosmological models. In stars, it is formed by the nuclear fusion of hydrogen in proton-proton chain reactions and the CNO cycle, part of stellar nucleosynthesis.[53]

In the Earth's atmosphere, the concentration of helium by volume is only 5.2 parts per million.[66][67] The concentration is low and fairly constant despite the continuous production of new helium because most helium in the Earth's atmosphere escapes into space by several processes.[68][69] [70] In the Earth's heterosphere, a part of the upper atmosphere, helium and other lighter gases are the most abundant elements.

Nearly all helium on Earth is a result of radioactive decay, and thus an Earthly helium balloon is essentially a bag of retired alpha particles. Helium is found in large amounts in minerals of uranium and thorium, including cleveite, pitchblende, carnotite and monazite, because they emit alpha particles (helium nuclei, He2+) to which electrons immediately combine as soon as the particle is stopped by the rock. In this way an estimated 3000 metric tons of helium are generated per year throughout the lithosphere.[71][72][73] In the Earth's crust, the concentration of helium is 8 parts per billion. In seawater, the concentration is only 4 parts per trillion. There are also small amounts in mineral springs, volcanic gas, and meteoric iron. Because helium is trapped in the subsurface under conditions that also trap natural gas, the greatest natural concentrations of helium on the planet are found in natural gas, from which most commercial helium is extracted. The concentration varies in a broad range from a few ppm up to over 7% in a small gas field in San Juan County, New Mexico.[74][75]

Please explain helium to us then, Captain Periodic Table.

It's an inert, noble gas... it's non-toxic which is why extremely deep sea divers mix it with their oxygen because, unlike nitrogen, helium doesn't dissolve in the human body and is simply expelled through normal breathing.

Now.. please go ahead and enlighten us with whatever helium conspiracy you have come up with.

it has nothing to do with toxicity.

one helium is rare.

two helium is very useful.

three, once helium is liberated it escapes the gravitational force of the planet.

many if not all of the technologies that will allow us to escape the gravity well use helium in the production process or active phase.

if we are to find our way off the planet, helium needs to be reserved for that purpose, and not frivolous birthday celebrations...

You need to add a modifier to your comment. Helium is not rare. It's the 2nd most abundant element in the universe after Hydrogen.

ON EARTH, yes, helium is somewhat rare but no where near as rare as gold, silver, platinum, palladium, etc.

Have you ever watched a helium filled ballon be carried away by the prevailing winds? It will alows the mind to travel far beyond this planet anyay. They will try to replicate it next on a Sony to keep our children safe sad and indoors.

fair enough, but my import stands. until we figure out how to travel between the stars, helium should not be treated lightly...

The U.S. is good at those to. My favorite is a speeding ticket.

Generally speaking... the actual fine for traveling, say 10 miles per hour over the limit is like $35-40 bucks. BUT... then you have like $150 in "court costs" tacked onto that. So even if you don't contest it and never go to the court house, you still have to pay court costs for them to do basically nothing.

It's a fucking joke.

If you're breathing 100% of anything that isn't oxygen then yes it will kill you... not because it's TOXIC though. It's because there is not enough oxygen to sustain the body.

 Quoting: APOLLYON ILLUMINATUS

one, it is not.

1.5 it can be fatal in manipulated environs.

two even if it was, pure helium escapes gravitational forces on this planet and escapes in the void between stellar entities, meaning it can never build up in our atmosphere.

And why is everything that causes cancer "know to the state of california to cause cancer?" Does California hold a patent on equipment/tests to determine if something is a carcinogen or not? lol
