Methane is 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas.
The releases are occurring on land here in Alaska, in Canada, and in Russia (I am sure) too.
What we have here is called "positive feedback," where the release of greenhouse gasses is causing further release of greenhouse gasses in a cycle that continues to speed up until the release of the most gas possible occurs.
Some species could survive if this started off like a symphony, but humans would have to have breathing apparatus and special systems in airtight buildings.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10365406 The abject stupidity in this thread is always a good read. I love how the data all contradicts this BS, but that doesn't matter. Methane levels have flattened in a clear logarithmic function. The fact that you think we'll need "breathing apparatus and special systems in airtight buildings" demonstrates your complete ignorance of the atmosphere, the amount of methane in it and the maximum amount of methane there could possibly be in it.
