You may not be ready to fully appreciate what you have in your life.
Before you can move forward with your life...you may need to lose your wife, kids, other family, all your so called friends, mostly all your physical possessions, your job, your drivers license, and all sense of self worth.
Only, then if you can come back from all that you'll truly be saved.

Thats a hard journey dear and what caused me to start drinking in the first place. Its quite a long way to figure out what brings you to the bottle.

Don't stock any alcohol in the house. If u want a beer, drive to BP and buy a 24oz beer in the 5.9% range and sip it. do this after 10:00PM. It's a good way to cut back. U get more effect on an empty stomach. I think it's a good step in the right direction.....

Just stop. It's up to you. No prgram or any advice will help. Just stop.

You seek power and answers that you already have.
 Quoting: Just A Thought

You think it's that easy? If it was that easy we would have no one addicted to drugs. I can't count the the times when I told myself I wasn't going to get drunk again just to do that. It's hard to combat the urge!
 Quoting: Newbie78

It's real fucking simple Newbie .. you dont give a shit anymore.

Find something you give a shit about and your taste for a beer or drink at 10am will go away on its own.

I KNOW !

Get into AA,NA or Anon and your only going to put yourself into a world of major brain damage for years to come.

I promise you this outcome.

Wait until you go into rehab and find your parents there with the moderators Crying because they were "such a bad influence on you".

I remember that with my brother. .. I stood up and told them ( the mods ) to All Fuck off ( I was only 12 ).

Go find something that you care about doing with your life.

You will wake up Wanting to go out at 8 am and Work on your project. It does not matter what Anyone else thinks of your project as long as YOU do. If your spouse does not agree then screw her too.

Do What YOU have to Do or you will Never get out of the "Dont give a shit mode .. im just living for everyone else so fuckit" mode.

You dont have to answer to Anyone .. nor do you have to ask for forgiveness if your friends are your friends.

Peace and good luck.

If you drink beer, try sparkling mineral water(or soda) with a little 100% apple juice in it. Put this in a big clear beer mug and drink as much of it as you like when you feel like a beer. It looks just like beer in the glass and even tastes a little bit like it too, but more refreshing.

I have talked with my wife about it. I'm not letting it effect my work but it is effecting my home life. I know I have a problem but it is hard actually to do something about it because all your friends call when they are drinking and want you to come over. Hell I'm lying about it on this post...I drink to the state of drunkenness by my self all the time. I have done it to myself tonight actually. I cannot stop myself from drinking if I have alcohol available. I blame only myself and no one else. Help would be appreciated.
 Quoting: Newbie78

Stop buying it so it won't be around the house. Don't go to friends' homes until you dryout and get a hold of the addiction. You will need strength and willpower, so go to it.

Re: I have a problem with alcohol abuse. I need help!
One cheap and easy way to start is to look up Alcoholics Anonymous AA in the phone book and go to one meeting.

If you're drinking close to a fifth or quart a day, you might need medical attention while detoxing because seizures can occur. Also, doctors can prescribe drugs that actually cut alcohol craving (and I don't mean by replacing with methadone or something).

There's a great book called "Get Up!" by Bucky Sinister if you're kind of a rebel. I think it's hilarious as well as helpful, but he's a punk slam poet and his style is not to everyone's taste.

Just do it. Good luck.

You can overcome this. You have the power.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7237563

Not for nothing .. but MILLIONS of alcoholics in this country, and around the world, do not "have the power" and have not "overcome this". SO YOU ARE WRONG.

The #1 step in Alcoholics Anonymous - *the* most successfull program in the world - is "I AM POWERLESS".

Seek outside help if you have not "overcome" the problem on your own. Before its too late.
You can always tell a SHILL by how many posts they make on things they don't believe in.

Please get help! Instead of drinking that next drink, go to an AA meeting where you can find yourself surrounded by people who have been there. If it is causing problems with your marriage, then it will most likely become problems with the law, etc. If you have about 10K to spare drink and drive. I have lived with an alcoholic spouse and we are on the round to recovery but it has to start with you stopping drinking. Think about the consequences - Alcoholism also has negative effects on the spouse of an alcoholic. [link to problemswithalcohol.com,] start 2012 off by being sober, your wife will love you for it.

Alcoholics Anonymous has meetings in most areas day and night. The program and the 12 steps saved my life and in turn, I have helped other alcoholics. It will be 10 years of sobriety in May for me. Good luck to you and God bless!

AA is very spiritual and its entire concept is about changing your life for the better. I drank almost to blackout every night for 25 years and AA has saved my life. It also stopped my lying, procrastination, and has allowed me to be of service to my fellow man. T he world would be a better place if everyone had the support and LOVE that comes from recovery. Give it a chance miracles can happen, nothing like a group of people who have been through everything you are going through to help.

Drunkenness is a sin. Drunkards will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

If you cannot control yourself from peer pressure, then don't be around those kind of people.

If you cannot control yourself from drinking alcohol when you're alone, then you need to ask God for help.

Let your wife know what your goal is; to quit being an alcoholic. She can help you. Cutting back is a step. Your goal should be no alcohol under your roof.
