They are chickens, born in July 2011. Over the summer I built a coop for them with wheel which I could relocate in various places in the yard. Because we have an appreciation for the autos of a bygone era we call the coop be a more formal name, Coupe deWheels after the Cadillac of a similar name.
I was told the chix would be laying in about 20 weeks, which would have been around December 1, but nothing happened then.
When I was on my farm in Pennsylvania I raised two batches of Guinea hens which laid dozens of very tasty eggs but the Guineas were killed by neighbor's dogs which also killed another neighbors sheep. This resulted in the dogs being euthanized by animal control. The dog's owners never compensated me for the Guineas that were killed.
Back to the chickens.
'Twas the night before Christmas, and I put the chix in their coop and went to visit friends and their wonderful kids on Christmas Day.
When we got back home, I went out to feed the chix and found my Christmas presents laying on the floor of the coop.
Two freshly laid chicken eggs. That was an unexpected Christmas present. So now I am confident that my chix are normal, and this batch will be the progenitors of what I hope will be future champions.
