In Cloverfield does anyone know where the monster originates from?
It seems to come from the ocean but is it alien, genetically modified creature, an old earth lifeform ressurected or something else?

Thanks

The movie seems to indicate that it falls from the sky into the ocean. So my guess is alien...

At the very end of the movie, the video footage taken from the Ferris wheel in Atlantic City shows something fall out of the sky into the ocean behind the main characters.

The camera-view line of movies lost me after blair witch. Cloverfield looked like it would have been amazing if not for that massive mistake.

That's not a creature. It's a satalite. Basically in the viral marketing you find out there is a soda company named Slusho that was responsible for waking the monster up, and that was how they did it.

It was a deep sea monster.

Re: In Cloverfield does anyone know where the monster originates from?
Goddard pointed out the lack of explanation in the film of the creature's origin was deliberate so as to make the film more realistic, as civilians would not know where it would come from. Despite this, in the final moments of the film, after the explosion and just before the credits, the characters Beth and Rob are talking while on an amusement ride. The camera is pointed out the window at a section of beach and ocean as a distant object can be seen coming in from the upper right of the picture. It splashes into the water just to the left of the yacht in that scene. The date, April 27, 6:17 p.m., is prior to the monster's attack on the city. As part of the viral marketing campaign, it is explained that the splash is made by a satellite crashing into the ocean. Reeves said the creature had "been down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years".[12]

Re: In Cloverfield does anyone know where the monster originates from?
There is a "Japanese" manga relating to the Cloverfield Monster.

[link to en.wikipedia.org]

You can find the manga on some fan sites...

I don't know if it's an "Alternate Universe" story like "The Watchmen"... or if it's really the origin.

But if you are a fan or J.J. Abrams... you'll recognize the Slusho references.

Well I enjoyed watching this on big screen when it came out. My hubby not so much as he had to go outside to yak. Seems it was too jumpy for his tummy and the funny thing was he did this 20 minutes in and wanted to see it more than me! Poor honey. I bought him the DVD when it came out and at least he was able to finish watching it without yak.

Re: In Cloverfield does anyone know where the monster originates from?
I loved Cloverfield...
It was raw, and played by no rules.

This fact alone lost many people, also many simply could not stomach the camera movement...
But the simple fact that is MADE NO SENSE is what I loved most.

Did 9/11 make sense as it was happening?
(Hell it still doesn't)

But Cloverfield captured that uncertainty and lack of rules in a safe movie environment.

It's one franchise JJ Abrams could have really capitalized on.

They tried to do some big online viral marketing thing before the film launched, with a series of mysterious links between several different sites that were created to give some backstory to the movie.

If I remember correctly, that part of the storyline implied that an oil company had caused a rupture in the sea floor that released the monster, and that leaking oil and chemicals from the drilling station over the years might have been the source of the mutation.

Wait, let me be clear here.
You are saying that there is a huge monster very deep under the sea(in areas that humans have yet to have access to), that can be awakened by dropping several satellites on it(similiar to the school bus sized satellite that was mysteriously dropped into the ocean last year and the many other 'satellite' drops that happened last year)?

Wouldnt it be interesting if fact was following 'fiction' on this?
They are not allowed to make a move without showing us first.
They showed us.........
