A recent analysis of a Lunar Laser Ranging (LLR) data record spanning 38.7 yr revealed an anomalous increase of the eccentricity of the lunar orbit amounting to de/dt_meas = (9 +/- 3) 10^-12 yr^-1. The present-day models of the dissipative phenomena occurring in the interiors of both the Earth and the Moon are not able to explain it. Quoting: The ALIEN Project We examine several dynamical effects, not modeled in the data analysis, in the framework of long-range modified models of gravity and of the standard Newtonian/Einsteinian paradigm. It turns out that none of them can accommodate de/dt_meas. Many of them do not even induce long-term changes in e; other models do, instead, yield such an effect, but the resulting magnitudes are in disagreement with de/dt_meas. In particular, the general relativistic gravitomagnetic acceleration of the Moon due to the Earth's angular momentum has the right order of magnitude, but the resulting Lense-Thirring secular effect for the eccentricity vanishes. A potentially viable Newtonian candidate would be a trans-Plutonian massive object (Planet X/Nemesis/Tyche) since it, actually, would affect e with a non-vanishing long-term variation. [link to thecelestialconvergence.blogspot.com] Why don't you cite the most important part of the publication: "On the other hand, the values for the physical and orbital parameters of such a hypothetical body required to obtain the right order of magnitude for de/dt are completely unrealistic. Moreover, they are in neat disagreement with both the most recent theoretical scenarios envisaging the existence of a distant, planetary-sized body and with the model-independent constraints on them dynamically inferred from planetary motions." You need to try reading the source material some time instead of believing GLP posts and shoddily-made YouTube videos... |

I agree about the moon anomaly, it is twisted almost 90 degrees these days.... saw it two nights ago again... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8212599 Nothing wrong with the Moon. What you are seeing is called field rotation. It is an APPARENT (not real) rotation that happens to everything in the sky. It is because you are looking at it from a round rotating surface. The Moon's shadow is still left to right. The North pole of the Moon still points to the North. YOU are the one that turned. It is an optical illusion known as field rotation. When the Moon (or anything else in the sky) rises you are looking East and it APPEARS rotated to the left. When high in the sky you are looking South and it is upright. When it sets you are looking West and it APPEARS rotated to the right. How do we know it is not a real rotation? First, YOU turned. When the Moon is just past the highest point in the sky you can see it both ways. Look South and you see the shadow on the left, look West and up and you see the shadow on top. Magic! Second, when we see it setting and appears to be rotated to the right, somebody on the other side of the world sees it rising AT THE SAME TIME and sees it appearing to be rotated to the left! |
