Sweet Misery - Aspartame (Video) - the scary truth
I personally have interest in this subject, seeing as how I have suffered greatly with Lupus, my brother with MS, my mother with Fibromyalgia, and my stepfather's severe diabetes (he is addicted heavily to diet sodas). I had a really toxic reaction to aspartame sweetened soda and had been reacting to it for quite a while (not knowing the cause of my symptoms), back in 1988. My Lupus began with thyroid disfunction, and then fatigue, joint pains, blood disorders, eventually kidney, liver, heart failure, and strokes. All of this began right when Aspartame went on the market...

I finally found out the cause of my first symptoms when I was working for a bottling company in Phoenix, AZ. We had a woman call in who was really upset at some of our product changes. Her husband was a diabetic, and she did not know what to do because he loved his diet sodas, which were before that time, sweetened with saccharin. Well, we were in the process of switching all of our sodas over to the aspartame. She said he absolutely could not drink sodas sweetened with the aspartame as it gave him pains in his legs. That was when I finally made the connection between the sodas and my own severe leg/muscle/joint pains. It had gotten very severe when I spent a few days on crackers and diet 7-up alone (aspartame sweetened) due to having stomach flu. I was so glad to realize that was the cause, but since then, it has still been a challenge to avoid it, as it has crept into so many products, sometimes in conjunction with other sugars, so it is not necessarily labeled "sugar free", either. Very toxic stuff, not fit for humans.
