The central theme of the battle between Christ and Satan has always been regarding WORSHIP, not an item. The ending focus of this war will also be over worship.

We will have to choose whether we choose to follow the Creator God, JEHOVAH, and His principles and commandments, or whether we follow Satan by choosing the rules and commandments of men.

As it was in the past, the government will be influenced by the church to pass laws which restrict liberty of conscience and cause men to worship a certain way, a way which is in clear opposition to God's Word and commands. Those who refuse to do this, and choose to remain loyal to the Word of God, will be branded as enemies of humanity, will have their property confiscated, will not be able to buy or sell, and will eventually be martyred for their faith.

What took place in the Dark Ages is almost the exact same thing that will happen during the final crisis, though except the stake we will see guillotines.
