Costa Concordia sinking - GPS problem?

Something isnt right here with the cruise liner that sunk earlier.

It is a state of the art liner with the most modern up to date GPS system and the captain and crew have years of experience in these waters and the particular route. They were also in very calm waters too.


It was dark so they rely on the GPS system to guide them in these waters so why the hell did they hit rocks?

I remember last year a few airports has to recalibrate their guidance systems due to magnetic pole shift, could this be a similar problem?
