If they put everyone who didn't pay their fines, in jail then most of the country would be in jail. Jail costs just as much as the unpaid fine. No wonder why the country is broke. This is yet another example of the over reach of big government.

I was in court the other day (for my client) and was watching other cases. The judge threatened to send a single mother to jail ($36 per day) if she did not send $20 dollars a week to pay off a $250 debt to her ex-boyfriends grandmother. The ex was in jail for beating the woman and the woman claimed it was her ex's debt and that the grandmother was claiming it was her's because she was pissed that her grandson was in jail. Sad part was that the woman had been laid off and the money was coming from her unemployment check. In watching the case, the woman seemed more creditable than the grandmother, and will go to jail in March if she has not been making payments.

Yup - thanks for pointing that out. I saw the photo and thought, "Now I know why all the fuss." LOL! Geesh - why would they use a stock photo of the biggest front yard mess they could find rather than running out and snapping a picture of the real thing? Par for the course with today's journalism, though.

"bought a house she couldn't afford," half the country did that. The days when you got a job at 20 and kept it until you retired, came and went a long time ago. Thanks to outsourcing, H1A AND H2B programs, bringing in cheap illegal labor, everyone will be heading to the poor house. Oh wait, there is no poor house, the poor house is actually a prison. After all, homelessness is a crime.

I could care less about people that want to live in junk piles as long as it's not near me but if everyone worried about this woman wanted to help her they could just pay her fine.

I am astonished at the number of uncaring responses to this woman's predicament.....All I can say is "You should hope that you don't find yourself in her unwelcome position. No one will care."

Another example of how people, in this case called neighbours, rather complain about the value of their property than trying to get the reason for it at the source and lending a helping hand before she got fined and jailed.

Society is derailing faster than Pecaboo Street went downhill. Why not keep an open eye and ear for those in need instead of looking the other way and complaining behind ones back. Strenght lies in help, not in hate.

We all might need help at some point in time.

Agree. But hell, in that kind of situation (having to do things like liquidate, and donate plasma) I doubt she was in much of a mood. Plus, it seems the biggest complaint is the shingles on the roof. I wouldn't want my 53 year old (insert female relative) huffing shingles - would you?

This is ludicrous and a complete waste of taxpayers money (glad I am not one of those, lol)

But again, the public has now paid for the fine, and housed and fed her for 10 days. Plus, she has gained exposure, and many will (or have) try to assist her.
