Well, maybe she could have put the junk in her back yard. Putting junk on your front lawn has nothing to do with being poor. I hope she finds a better way to store these things and gets back on her feet. Maybe her neighbors felt bad when they turned her in instead of helping her first.

I would bet the backyard is already full, as is the house...perhaps with cats and dogs as well...maybe she could make some money on the hoarder show...

I have to agree with you on most of what you are saying, Brief. We had a neighbor like this 3 doors down from me. The front house was so packed with stuff, they had to move into the back house. The first floor of the back house, which was a 3 car garage, was packed to the ceiling. The back yard was full, and the front yard was partially full.
Both of them were working, they were just hoarders.

Reading the article about this case, and seeing the picture, changed my opinion on this story. There is no way she was simply scrapping for money. She had way too much in that yard for an ordinary scrapper.IMO,she is a hoarder. I do believe that she was originally scrapping for money, but somehow she went beyond the scrapping, and went over the line to a virtual hoarder junkyard. It looks like she had enough junk for several semi loads. There are several people in my neighborhood who scrap to pay their bills. When they get a truckload, they take it in, not let it pile up like this woman did.

This is the sort of response I like. Seems like many people can complain that something must be done, but who among you would actually pitch in and make a difference, to actually do what needs to be done instead of ordering a huge dumpster. Was at her house on Halloween. The yard is neater than one would think in the front. Just several packs of shingles sitting neatly on the front of the roof. My son's friend's parents, who just live several houses away from her, pointed out the shingles and chuckled saying that they had been there a few years. It did not seem to offend them and it certainly did not offend me. The yard was neat. It just had the shingle packs on the front yard part of the roof. I guess the neighbor who could see it was the one to call the town. Sad. They should have offered to help instead. Everyone knows someone hit by the recession/depression. How neighborly. How nice.... The lack of understanding of what it takes to hold on to normalcy under these stressful financial circumstances is mind boggling. And for the neighbor to complain about a drop in property values.... Come on! This area is Candlewood not the Stepford-like areas of I'On or Daniel Island with extreme HOA compliancy officers saying when your grass needs cutting or that you can see the trash can from the street. They need to get a life. Start going after the copper thieves in the area instead, or how about the armed robbers or other actual law breakers?
