Archaeologists uncover 1,100-year-old tomb of female singer in Egypt's Valley of the Kings
Archaeologists from Egypt and Switzerland have unearthed the 1,100-year-old tomb of a female singer in the Valley of the Kings, officials have revealed.

It is the only tomb of a woman not related to the ancient royal families ever found in the valley, said Mansour Boraiq, the senior official at the Antiquities Ministry in Luxor.

He said the coffin was remarkably intact, and that when it was opened this week, experts are likely to find her mummified body with a funeral mask moulded to her face.

There is something defiling about raiding these tombs.

Egypt used to have millions of mummies. Literally millions and millions. There were tombs packed with thousands of them, floor to ceiling. Most were destroyed in the last 2 centuries... crushed up to use in paint, fertilizer, medicines, unwrapped at dinner parties or burnt in steam trains. Some were even unwrapped to provide cheap butcher's paper.

The whole article is iffy. It says she was found at both the Valley of the Kings and the Karnack Temple in Luxor, but those are far, far apart.
