Kraut Runza
Ya ever had one? They are the best thing ever. I made them for dinner tonight.

I grew up on them. They were one of my all time favorites. They are an old recipe from the Volga Germans.

Here is the recipe

Re: Kraut Runza
I grew up with Kraut Runzas too!!! However, they are a different recipe then the one you have posted. The ones that my family have been making for over 80 years do NOT have ground beef in them. They are are a combination of bacon, garlic and onions sauteed well over med heat and then cabbage is added and cooked down well over med-high heat. When its done cooking down you can add some keilbasa and mix it in. Then find your favorite pizza or crescent roll doe and cut out 6x6 squares or larger. Then add the kraut mixture and pull the corners together and pinch them shut. A little water on the fingers helps the edges stick together. The bake in oven at 375 until golden brown. Let cool some or you will burn your mouth with the piping hot kraut.

This is one of my favorite foods ever!! It is a family tradition to cook it every year, several times a year.
