When I thought gender neutral, I figured they dressed him in clothes that could either be for a boy or a girl, like jeans and tshirts that weren't 'boyish' or 'girlish' (whatever the heck that means anyway).

That mother is delusional to think that this boy will always be a boy. This is a huma. This is a boy that will be a man one day. This is not a little doll or a pet. This is a man's life at stake. In life, people are conditioned by their unique life experience. When I was a kid I got to experience the ninja turtles and super soakers. These exerpeiences molded today's personality for me. This kid is experiencing wearing girls clothes, This is this young man's life experience. Being forced to wear clothes of anothrr gender.

This whole topic points out something which should be obvious.. that's it much more acceptable for a female to dress like / engage in activities that are typically considered masculine than the opposite scenario.

In that sense, females have much more freedom.

However, I think the reason that's it's more acceptable for females to dress in slacks and work on auto mechanics, for example, as opposed to a male wearing a dress and working on needlepoint, for example, is that it's considered an insult to a man to be compared to a female, or to possess feminine characteristics.
