United States 01/31/2012 12:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Berkey water filter question Jesus, the quest to find a good water filter never ends. All the companies give out information contrary to each another. I just signed up a moment ago because I need information from experienced humans like you so I don't mess up and waste money. It was a toss up between a Berkey, AquaRain or Katadyn (yes, I read through the entire thread I found earlier) and although I decided on a Big Berkey, I am confused as to which add-ons I should purchase with it. I would like ALL of the fluoride, heavy metals, bacteria, cysts, chemicals and pharmecutials removed. So do I need the black berkey filters or the ceramic? Can I use both? Is the shower head filter worth buying? I live in upstate NY and will go through a couple gallons a day. What kind of life expectancy can I expect on the filters and what should I buy for back up? Lastly, they seem to be all over the place. Where is the best place to buy them? If anyone wants to waste their time and indulge me I promise to envision many years of good karma for you :) Warriorajah |

United States 01/31/2012 12:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: Berkey water filter question you want the ceramic as u just have to clean them and they will last for up to three years depending on you water use. also purchase the flouride filters that are extra. these filters have to be replaced every 6 months and are not reuseable like the ceramic. we have the big berkey and love it. hope that helps. |

We have some arsenic in our well water here in Nevada. We have used Berkey for years and recently ordered the Crown Berkey, holds 5 gallons. Of course have added the white floride/arsenic filters. Those have to be changed more often than the black filters. They say the black will last 3000 gals ea. and the white approx. 1000 gals. So depends how many in your family. We are very happy with the filter. We added an extra set of both, so we are using 4 black and 4 white, won't effect the effectiveness, as I understand that would be the same if you only used 2 of each. But where it makes a huge difference is in the amount of time the water flows through. Within 2 hours it is finished filtering that 5 gallons. Hope this helps. |
