Iran to launch new generation of satellites into orbit

Defense Minister says Iran is planning to place a new generation of satellites called Fajr (Dawn) into orbit to mark the 33rd anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in the country.

“The launch of Navid-e Elm-o Sanat satellite into orbit using Safir satellite carrier was not simply an aerospace operation, but stood for creativity, self-reliance and wisdom of Iran's aerospace engineers,” Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Sunday.

Tehran also plans to launch the country's first manned mission into space by 2019.
