Enteric coronavirus infection in a juvenile dromedary (Camelus dromedarius)

Abstract. A case of an enteric coronavirus infection in a 6-week-old dromedary calf is described. The
animal had diarrhea for 5 days and died despite symptomatic treatment. Numerous viral particles, approximately
140 nm in diameter, with club-like projections were detected in the feces by electron microscopy. These characteristics were consistent with a coronavirus. Immunohistochemical reactivity with 2 antigenic group II coronavirus-speci&#64257;c antibodies con&#64257;rmed the presence of viral antigen in colonic epithelial cells. The death of
the animal was attributed to a neutrophilic and emphysematous colitis that likely was caused by an infection

all links go to the arabian peninsula, and very few animals are in contact with them there besides camels, goats and sheep..some horses..not many pigs. Fleas could be a source but I think it is going h2h in many occurances. Take the latest guy..nothing on his homeland contacts at all

I agree Treyfish, I posted on the previous page that I think that this coronavirus is probably already well established in many parts of the globe.

I think that it has spread far and wide already and that too little was done too late to contain it.

I really hope that I am wrong, the future will tell us.

Al-Memish, who is also the chairman of the National Scientific Committee for Infectious Diseases, said that only a few people had been found positive in the world.

Symptoms of the virus include runny nose, general feeling of illness, mild sore throat, cough, headache, low fever and chills. It can also cause respiratory, intestinal and neurological illness.

The official said most of those infected recover completely with no complications after receiving the required supportive therapy.

The above comments are in response to the most recent nCoV case in Riyadh, who was a contact of the recent fatal case (39M) and his infection was characterized as mild. In addition the English language report cited above, local comments, which were widely reported, also noted that most of the milder cases were in Jeddah.

camel are often grazed or taken care off by Bedouin hence in desart areas , the desert has caves the that contain bats , fruit bat will eat dates or figs found at in or around watering holes used by herders , I am thinking bat dropping or food contamination , , or ticks picked up by the herders from sheep camels goats that have picked up the virus .


This person is unlikely to be a poor saudi as he travelled for medical treatment , and his age would make me think that he unlikely to be looking after camels for herders or the wealthy , is it possible he was a racing camel owner ...... if so then that would put him among the elite and therefore explain the medical bills being paid .

can we find out were in saudi arabia he travelled from ?

had he recently been on umrah?

again the age would lead me to think unlikely however he could new living in what is in an expensive area to live

If no information is given out on this case then in all likely hood i would suspect him to be one of the lesser princes or brothers to .

as trey fish mentioned the racing camels are well looked after a big business , but the sheep and goats are not , and as i am sure you will appreciate bathrooms for the herdsman are few and far between.
Don't get me wrong they wash regularly, at least five time a day ,when water allows , I know I;ve been there done that ,and believe me its not easy to ration oneself to a single jug of water a day .

Why thank you Arkay , just a little lateral thinking i suppose ,and knowledge of the area and peoples cultural habits , mixed up with lots of travelling experience and a willingness to look at things without prejudice's but simply as they are .
I have been most fortunate in that i have had the ability to travel and the willingness to learn, and that during those travels my hosts have been most gracious showing me there ways , and allowing me into their family homes
