well mass strandings typically have two causes (that I\'m aware of, no doubt there are more)

Military underwater communications, and fleeing earthquake zones. So it\'s either a sub patrolling near there, or a magnitude 9000?!?! is about to occur.

I've read a little about Whales, Dolphins and large schools of fish fleeing areas where earthquakes are about to happen. Maybe it's a release of gas? Not sure why. I have noticed the mid-atlantic ridge has been fairly active over the last few weeks.

The new sonar uses sound waves and microphones to detect submarines at distances 10 times farther away than standard sonar equipment. Environmentalists believe the noise could affect whale health and behaviors, such as migratory patterns and breeding.

This is what has been happening around the world. High frequency pitches have been used to disrupt enemies radars or electronic devices, hence the dying of marine mammals and earth mammals.

I work at an Auto Body shop outside boston. Some guy brought his Hummer by a few days ago and it had the words "dolphin killer" keyed into it. I wonder what thats all about????

Interesting. I checked the elevation where I live...just to be sure. I'm about 50 meters ASL, and about 30-40 kilometers from the shore. I'd feel a lot better if those numbers were doubled.
