Re: Animal lovers: anybody with a cure for Parvo?
So first off parvo really really sucks! However, if you pay attention to your pet and catch it as soon as he goes off food, your chances are EXCELLENT!

#1) Vaccinate with NEO PAR. Vets give you about a 50% success rate. They don't typically use Neo Par. ;o)

#2)Parvo does live in the ground like forever and if you have dogs happily running around with the kids, you will have it all over. It will be impossible to irradicate no matter how "responsible" you are. So you start by vaccinating with Neo Par. It is the best I know of. It is not 100% effective but it is probably 95% or better from what I have experienced.

#3) As soon as baby goes off food, try to bribe him with meat or canned dog food. If he just looks at you all depressed, try water. If no response, take his temp. If it is above normal 102.5 (max) for a 7 week old pup) Start treatment.

You will need:
1 luer slip syringe about 20-35cc
5 6 to 12 cc syringes
Pedialite
5 20 gage needles
sterile water
Bleach
paper towels
container like a plastic storage tote or crate depending on size of puppy.
Rubber gloves (optional but nice to have)
puppy formula or powdered goat milk (optional)
tasty canned food

#1) Fill the large luer slip syringe with warm (not cold or hot) water. Give your puppy an enema. A ten lb puppy "might" accept 80cc's of fluid. Do not over fill but you do want to get enough in him. This helps hydrate quickly and cleans the bowel. Be prepared for it to be released.....(container with paper towels or pine shavings help for clean up. This is a messy job but important)

#2) Start puppy on pedialite. if he is not vomiting, use a smaller syringe to administer 6-18ccs every 30-60 minutes adding water in between the pedialite doses.
if he is vomiting, you will need to give 1-2cc's every 5-10 minutes until he begins keeping it down.

#3)If he is not peeing and staying hydrated, you will need to add extra fluids under the skin but not into the muscle.
You will use a med to lg syringe and a 20 g needle. Fill the syringe with sterile water and administer subcutaneously. You will likely need to administer about 60cc's 2-3 times daily on a 5-15 lb pup that you are not able to keep well hydrated with pedialite.

#4) Test puppy for eating with 1 tsp canned food every 6 hours or so. Test with formula, goat milk or water at the same times you test with food. Make it fresh every time. (fresh scoop of food, fresh, not microwaved milk or water)

#5) When he eats.....and drinks....stop giving fluid subcutaneously and keep offering fresh liquid every few hours.
You are likely over the worst. This typically takes 1-3 days. Now we add probiotics and continue to rest and recover.

You can also order things like Parvaid but by the time it arrives, you may already be on your way. ;o) If you have it on hand, definitely try it!

Re: Animal lovers: anybody with a cure for Parvo?
Parvoguard. My dog got parvo when he was about 6 weeks old. I took him to the vet and he told me he would be dead in 24-48 hours. I got home and googled the parvo virus and it led me to Parvoguard. I ordered some overnight express and received it before 10 am. I started him on it and he was doing better by 2 pm. We nursed him through it with pedialite and the Parvoguard.

He is now going on 9 years old. He is healthy, playful and a great little guy. He is also only 5 lbs and the biggest part of my life!

We lost a couple of pups last year to parvo. I'll send good thoughts your way.

I have read that the inoculations don't work with this "new strain", but it is hard to get reliable info on the net. Damn vets aren't very forthcoming about it...

I think that the inoculations don't work, so therefore they will call it a new strain.

If Op has had numerous dogs come down with it and all have been vaccinated, and then you read about everyone else's dogs getting parvo, even though they have been vaccinated, ya gotta wonder.

Re: Animal lovers: anybody with a cure for Parvo?
My Cane Corso pup has come down with Parvo. He has had all his shots and was big and healthy, a tad over knee high and about 25-30 lbs at 14 weeks of age.
Now the little guy is battling for his life right now at the vets office. I have had two other pups I bought in the past within the last year come down with parvo and have died but they were a little younger and had all their shots also.

All the areas those other pups were at this pup has not been and the pet kennel was destroyed were the other two pups were transported in.
I know that parvo is highly contagious and can get from the ground up to over a year were an infected dog had been.
I'm beginning to think the vaccines gave my pups the viruses.

Anybody have any success stories of their dog recovering from parvo? Do you know of any highly successful cures out their?

wipe the dog down with cider vinegar 3 times per day .. they lick it off and they then get very thirsty and rehydrate themselves .. also get yourself some OIL OF OREGANO AND ADMINISTER 4 DROPS EVERY 5 HOURS !!!!! Re: Animal lovers: anybody with a cure for Parvo?
Colloidal Silver Knocks Out Deadly Canine Parvo Virus
For example, one of the deadliest and most feared viruses among dog and kennel owners is canine parvo. But, colloidal silver is a well-known alternative treatment for dogs suffering from parvo, and according to pet owners it has saved a lot of lives. On the other hand, conventional veterinary treatments fail because they only have antibiotics, which do nothing to stop viral infections. Yet, they prescribe them in cases of canine parvo and about 80% of the time, the dog dies.

Lugols' solution will kill any viruses or bacteria. I have used it for several years for bronchitis.
