Judge says lactation not 'pregnancy-related' - upholds firing of pregnant woman in Texas
If you asked your employer for permission to use a breast pump in a private back room during your break and he responded by laying you off, would this constitute sex discrimination? One U.S. District Judge, the Honorable Judge Lynn Hughes of Houston, Tex., does not think...

omg! only in america, land of the free!

Of course lactating is fricking pregnancy related, otherwise woman would be lactating all the time (horrible thought)

What an idiot judge... obviously one who has never been pregnant or had a child!wall

Oh come on, give the judge a break. He needed a drink of that sweet nector, didn't want to waste it on a baby.

"Go lactate on your own time. I aint payin you to produce milk like some kind of fucking bovine. You think I want that image in my head of you in the broom closet milking yourself, you better think twice" said the Boss.

"Ah screw it! I can't get that damned image out of my head. What next? Employees wanting extra minutes of lunch to visit the spank bank? Just sack that damned woman. Let her husband worry about it. She can lactate all she wants at home. Looking after her kids. Where she's supposed to be." said the Boss.

This is one of the realities of life as a woman, the problem is the system was built under the realities of men who didn't care about women's needs or even men's really. Its not something that men will ever encounter so they dont care. If mothers need to pump breastmilk on their breaks they should do it. I support men being allowed leave to be with their newborn infants just like moms. We cant elevate mother and fatherhood without paying these respects. Right now it feels like a shame to give up your freedom and be a "parent", someone who dared to breed a new member of our species. Things like this only enforce shame around being a parent.

In years past, a woman with a new born did NOT have to worry about breast pumps, judges, nasty psycho 'bosses'

they were at Home taking care of their new borns

All before the 1970s and the communist lies of "feminism" took over and the "right to work" outside the home bull

Now, women are brainwashed into believing they have to work and give their babies to some cold, uncaring communist day care center with their breast milk in bottles

WAKE UP america!!!

Went back before that with women's rights and wanting to be equal with men, but yes women should be at home being housewives and raising children.

If its not caused by pregnancy, it should be covered under the ADA as a hormonal imbalance.

I would think that the judge could be easily removed by a recall of the females in that district.

The judge is obviously not qualified to render decisions in court cases at this decision showed she has the mental capacity of a moron and the IQ of a shoe.

Exactly why do people drink milk from cows but have a fucking freak out over human milk? Seems a bit backwards to me. Then again I don't really care for milk but I love titties. Kind of defies logic....

I respect the fact that women try to provide the best nourishment for their babies by pumping breast milk, but am appalled that, in our reductionist culture, we think that milk pumped in a bathroom on a work break, chilled in the fridge, and later heated up in the microwave, provides the same level of nourishment that it would if suckled from the breast in a warm and nurturing environment.

Most adults would agree that a nice, sit down meal with time to digest it is much more nourishing than fast food eaten on the run. There is more to eating than just physical. So why do we think 'pumped' milk is the same as 'suckled' milk ?

Women should stay home with their babies and beast feed. Babies need the nurturing. That judge was probably not breastfed... Or the boss ...

If a smoker gets a smoke break, a mom should get a pump break. Probably the better question is should she get paid to pump. I don't think so, but neither should smoker's get paid to smoke.

Would you prepare your food in a bathroom? Then why would you expect a woman to prepare her infant's food in a bathroom?? There are fecal particles in the air ffs!

I swear there is a new brand of stupid being born every day in America.

Why is it ok for Muslims to have time away from the working areas & go do their prayers in a seperate private area, but it's not ok for a mother to go to a private area & pump her life-giving milk for her baby?????

Double standards all over the place.

A smoker is a regular smoker like everyday of their lives. A mother who is lactating & needs to pump milk for her baby is only a short term thing......big difference. She is doing the right thing to raise her baby (the next generation) healthy......the smoker is slowly killing himself & everyone around him.
