The British and French met today in Paris and openly stated they would support the Free Syrian Army in any way possible short of putting troops on the ground. The Turks are also openly supporting the Free Syrian Army in the north. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5546541 and nobody has portrayed the fsa as civilian protestors I got news for you bud - the main 'sales pitch' to the west is STILL that- the uprising is mainly oppressed ordinary people, who have had enough of a brutal dictator, and who are uprising, being slaughtered and thus need western military intervention. That is the story still being sold on Fox News (USA), BBC News (UK) or any of the Aussie networks. Lately they have hinted that some Syrian military have defected, but even so the shelling of Homs is portrayed as Syrian military vs unarmed civilians. Not sure what news reports you have been watching. Sky News has been running reports from correspondents who are with FSA units. The pictures show the FSA as an armed movement. But yes they portray them as weaker than the Syrian armed forces - because they clearly are. I think you need to stop seeing what you want to see and start actually looking at videos online posted from people in these cities. The FSA, regardless of their politics, ARE a lightly armed rebel force, mostly supported by unarmed civilians, who ARE being brutally put down by a large, well armed and trained regular army and air force. |

Seems like the UK and EU are getting slightly more accurate bullshit than us poor bastards further away. I mean, they have grounds, technically, to say it is a civil war, but they shy away from that simply because it is not 'emotional' enough to justify military intervention. Pushing the 'civil war' line means that any intervention is 'taking sides' which in itself makes it harder to 'sell' to the public. Portraying the situation as 'innocent civilians being massacred by evil dictator military' is much easier to sell in order to justify military intervention. ie no 'sides' are being taken, instead, we are seen as heroes, riding in to save the poor oppressed people. |

[link to en.wikipedia.org] Not that it means that the West hasn't supplied both sides :) |
nexuseditor (OP) User ID: 10354408 ![]() 02/17/2012 05:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Don't get me started on that slut of a country. Now you know why this parasitic petro-dictatorship has won the bid to be a venue for so many major sporting events. It is part of the reward from the west for being the main channel of funds to mercenaries, Taliban fighters, 'Al Qaeda terrorists', which are used for internal terrorism in targetted Arab nations, which so far have included: Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Bahrain, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen. And have I mentioned that the State of Qatar own and control Al Jazeera TV? Does anyone really think all those Al Jazeera news clips now showing everynight on the BBC, and lots of other western networks are going to be fair and accurate reports? |

On that point, I found this article quite fair in its coverage: "Syria's Uprising in Context" [link to www.voltairenet.org] |
