I felt like people had some sort of intuition to stock up more than they would normally and everyone was there. Before I knew it, I had over $300 in my cart when I normally only spend around $120 for the "norm". Did anyone experience the same at their COSTCO or other stores where you live?

It felt like everyone was preparing for a natural disaster and didn't even know it!! I don't know, maybe it was just me. Just wanted to see what happened around other places.

Gas price goes up so does everything else!

Lay-in as much as you can afford,2 months more and the sticker-shock at the reg. might cause panic buying and want be much left.

If you can grow anything,do it!

People see whats going on.

Yes, I think it is to offset the price of gas, get gas there, get cheaper food there, all in one. I also think stress makes people eat, and this coming war, the economy, so many things to eat over for some.

I shop at Sam's but It has been noticeably busier than normal.

I have a lot of animals and spend a fortune every month to feed and care for them. And the prices are sky rocketing on just about everything.

Doom for sure when people shop like there is no tomorrow. Great post!!

Well I assume it's because people have their tax returns and are shopping. I actually went to purchase a new gun today and waited in line at the gun counter for about 2 hours. They were packed but it is a Saturday..../shrug I feel the need to prepare....that's why i was there.

What did you end up purchasing?

I've had similar experiences at my local gun shop... 3 employees working behind the counter and having to wait 30 minutes for one to be freed up to assist me... Seen all sorts of Customers come through (old guys, younger adults, guys with their wives & children, etc)

I'm sure it had nothing to do with tax returns the weekend or it being the middle of the month when people who get paid bi-monthly get paid....

Probably tax returns, combined with those weird feelings that something doom related is about to happen.

I myself used the opportunity to stock up on medicine for my fish. I don't actually have fish, but now that I have plenty of antibiotics for them, I probably should get some.

peace

It was obviously COSTCO's secret subliminal shopper program. They hire people to wander around with carts full of groceries and through neurological subconcious suggestion you wind up filling your cart with groceries too. Ooooo free samples!!

Re: Went to COSTCO today and it was busier than I've seen it like people were preparing for a NATURAL DISASTER or something!!
I haven't done the Costco run this month, but I noticed when I was at WalMart last week in the grocery section that they had a large, three tiered cart with what I believe are called #10 cans.

Went closer for a look and found that it was all sorts of mixes and dehydrated foods. You could get dry milk, bread mixes, drink mixes, fake bacon bits, fruit, and several types of vegetables (dried). It was pretty well picked over by the time I saw it.

Got a can of dehydrated celery. I've never tried drying my own celery, although I regularly do frozen mixed veggies in the dehydrator and they come out well.

I was just surprised that they were being so obvious about it. And I know in our area (Puget Sound) we have quite a bit of military presence and they're pushing Preparation and Preparedness. They even have one of those little magnetic cards that they've given out with their prepare website/twitter addy.

My mom called yesterday freaking out and saying she needs to go to BJs but didn't elaborate, and said she needed to find out if there are card holders in this house or not?

She's also in a certain centcom officer reserve duty thing. Was kinda odd now that I think about it. Maybe something is up? I just thought it was another one of her funny omg-it's-the-end-of-the-world-because-I-need-to-run-to-this-specific-store episodes.
