'Am I ugly?': Worrying new trend sees tweens posting YouTube videos asking the public to comment on their looks
Teen and tween girls and boys are posting clips of themselves on to YouTube accompanied by the question 'Am I ugly?'

A short search yields scores of videos from insecure 11, 12, 13 and 14-year-olds, their anxiety forcing them into the notoriously harsh world of online commentating to find an answer to their misguided question.

The worrying trend has mushroomed of late, though the videos first starting appearing two to three years ago.

what about when hot or not was popular? This isn't a new trend, just a new platform.

Yes a new platform along with some new very bizarre "standards".

Very sad and troubling.

This looks like a troll for cash. When this hits mainstream media - this chick (or her parents) are going to make shitloads of money from this story.

- Just look at the setup to that posted video. No way a young girl like that is making that vid on her own. It's rigged to snare the bad, then cash in on it.

Even some of the shots seem purposefully unflattering. I think there is an adult behind this video.

The size of the dislike bar on this video indicates a large chance of suicide.

Fine, kids, none of you are all that good-looking.

Develop something else in yourself instead. Learn a skill, cultivate a talent, read a few decent books...

Looks fade in time anyway, life is always better in the long run if you are not vain and shallow.

Okay, I admit this is a little harsh. I mean to aim this at the parents of these kids.

Turn off the cellphone and stick it in a drawer. Cut off teh internets or block Facebook along with any site that uses TMZ as a "news" source.

Burn your TV.

burnit

Encourage your kids to build their self-esteem on something other than vanity.

Children should care about their inner beauty and stop focusing on outer beauty, to bad they have been brainwashed that way!
