Den of antiquity: Flower reanimated from 30,000 year old seeds//
Russian scientists have resurrected a flowering plant from 30,000-year-old seeds found in an Ice Age squirrel’s treasure chamber in the Siberian permafrost. This pioneering experiment paves the way for the revival of other species.
Silene stenophylla – the oldest plant ever to be regenerated – is fertile, producing white flowers and viable seeds. The plant is by far the oldest to be brought back from the dead. The previous record holder was a sacred lotus, dating back about 1,200 years, according to the New Scientist magazine.

I can see reviving some species that were killed off as a direct result of humans, such as the Passenger Pigeon. But why revive something that went extinct naturally?

Meh, I guess they gotta start somewhere. Hopefully they don't bring back a self-pollinating flower that thrives in today's climate and spits out tons of gases poisonous to humans.

The seeds were dormant in the ground. Retreating permafrost may have caused them to sprout on their own, like the desert flowering after a rain.

And if they need a little help from man, so be it, as we have collectively killed enough on our own.
