It's a trick that makes them somehow bad and its strange that lenny bruce was arrested for using words. think about that for a moment. a man being arrested for saying a word.

I totally agree. I think Hollywood is mostly responsible, along with a huge growth of a minority population that created the hip-hop culture and make an industry out of chanting filth constantly to our young people. Older people started doing it to be cool and fit in as well.

As for Hollywood, I remember seeing one movie where the main character used the F-word about 20 times in the first 10 minutes of the movie. I walked out. Apparently it was the only way he could communicate and it was supposed to be "cool."

Not all Americans are like that however. But yeah, it seems most. They don't understand that by destroying a language they are destroying their own civilization. Most are very illiterate, and I've noticed words that were used even 20 years ago are unknown to younger people today. Language is a wonderful thing that defines and expresses a society. Unfortunately, society has gone in the toilet.

And when you see Shakespeare and the Bible re-written in today's dumbed down language, it helps destroy the history of the language as well. I was reading a "rewritten" Shakespeare tragedy lately, and it was like people didn't realize that a great part of Shakespeare's genius was his command of the English language and the word interplay that he used - wasn't just the "plots."

I enjoy the idea that someone comes here and they talk about shakespere and the bible which both deal with subjects of murder and canniblism and rape and incest but saying a bad word is ... so terrible that it will ruin culture! but the bible can kill newborns and shakespere is so beautiful when he commits suicide or kills ...because that is art! but words - those words - they are so terrible.

can you imagine? a four letter word that starts with an F can have such an impact that it destroys language and offends! yet, reading in context about murder and rape and war and death is art. how hypocritical!
