Agency spokeswoman Viktoria Mitlyng (MIT'-ling) says preliminary calculations indicate that the radiation dose from Monday's release at the Byron Generating Station was less than 0.001 (one one-thousandth) percent of the NRC's annual limit. That amount is thought to be safe to workers and the public. The Byron plant is about 95 miles northwest of Chicago. Even less tritium escaped in a 2010 steam release at the Braidwood nuclear plant about 50 miles southwest of Chicago. Final data will be available to the public after the Commission conducts a special investigation. [link to www.wifr.com] |

Emergency diesel generators started following the incident, and there is no indication that a reactor shutdown is planned. This is the same reactor that lost offsite power on January 30 2012, resulting in a reactor scram and release of radioactive steam to the atmosphere." [link to robertsingleton.wordpress.com] |

I live in Illinois. At first glance I was going to say yes, this made the mainstream news. Then I read your post. The Jan 30 event made the news. The new event did not (to my knowledge). Thanks again **I'm all out of bubblegum |
