Although a small country with only a few hundred thousands people, they could become great friends. Im not talking about annexing them, far from it. But each country has a wealth of knowledge and expertise that could mesh very well once put together. I see no negative downside for us. They would forfeit their right to control the currency, thats no fun. But when the euro eventually fails, and it will, they'll be fine. Assuming we dont get crushed simultaneously. There are some hot women on that small island... so theres that! |

They approached Canada about it. The deal proposed - All citizens of Turks and Caicos become Canadians and as such get access to our health care, pensions, and free travel throughout our land. In exchange we get to go there without a passport. The government entertained the idea but the deal is too expensive for Canada. So the people of Turks and Caicos just came here illegally and applied for refugee status, got it, and now have access to our health care and pensions. Yeah we saved a bundle. |

Quoting: Madame X What implications will it have for Canada? The poll results are interesting. Canucks seem to think, to the tune of approx 68% that they should. For Iceland it would be a winning move, if they can afford to buy in. For us, it would give us a small bump up. Could Iceland adopt the loonie? "This is not as outlandish as it sounds. Canada's banking system is something Iceland's is not — sound — and the Canadian economy, with its mooring in much-desired natural resource wealth, is among the most stable and predictable in the advanced world." Iceland now have realised they are getting no growth because they cant borrow to finance public and private expansion schemes. They were told this would happen but choose to go it alown and and see if they could tough it out. They have found out, going it on their own wont work, and they have to be part of the system in aorder to expand their ecconomy. Belive me, you have not heard the last of their debt mountain yet. ![]() |

My first chuckle of the day. Good analysis. So would we have a rush of Icelander's to Canada. Oh wait, they already are here, they landed in Gimili a long time ago. [link to www.icelandicfestival.com] I can see a connect between Canada and Iceland and if they have oil it's an added bonus. The annexation would make for easier business transactions. No not Greece. Iceland. ![]() True, but you can't get blood from a stone. If you throw in the towel and then start from scratch personally, the former backer that gambled and lost can't go after the new backer. Can they? I know they can't when it is a business bankruptcy, if a country is a business would the same rules not apply? With more and more countries not being able to meet their debt obligations when does the world cry uncle. Who gets to decide where the "money" gets printed and where it doesn't. The more I learned of money and economic transference over the years, the more I realized what a game it really is.
