NETHERLANDS DISPATCHES MOBILE-EUTHANASIA UNITS
'Life End' offering home services free of charge to Dutch citizens

A controversial system of mobile euthanasia units that will travel around the country to respond to the wishes of sick people who wish to end their lives has been launched in the Netherlands.

Re: NETHERLANDS DISPATCHES MOBILE-EUTHANASIA UNITS
Bout time.

Keeping suffering people alive who just want to end it is cruel and pointless not to mention an uneccessary drain on the family and economy.

If someone is wracked with agony day after day with no hope of cure or relief..it should be within their right to call it a day and leave.

We have so few choices in this life. We did not choose to be born...but we CAN choose when to exit the stage..and preserve our dignity in the only REAL choice we have in life..WHEN to end it.

Re: NETHERLANDS DISPATCHES MOBILE-EUTHANASIA UNITS
The project, which has provoked sharp criticism from doctors, is the brainchild of the Dutch largely donor-funded pro-mercy killing group Right to Die NL.

It follows the government's 2002 decision to legalise euthanasia, making the Netherlands the first country in the world to do so.

Re: NETHERLANDS DISPATCHES MOBILE-EUTHANASIA UNITS
Teams will be travelling around the country assisting patients whose own doctors refuse to help them to die. The new units consist of a doctor, a nurse and all the medical equipment required to carry out euthanasia.

Patients can choose injections administered by the medical team, or they may drink a lethal concoction of life-ending drugs.

The Dutch right-to-die organisation (NVVE), which is funding the new scheme, says both options will be available on the mobile units.

"They will first give the patient an injection, which will put them into a deep sleep, then a second injection follows, which will stop their breathing and heart beat," says the group's Walburg de Jong.

Re: NETHERLANDS DISPATCHES MOBILE-EUTHANASIA UNITS
I have no problem with this. Just have to make sure they are really dead though, machines don't die like normal people do.

I am thoroughly against exterminating people with gas, but realize after catastrophe you have to put people down just as you would terminal and suffering animals. Humane. For me it is all about that.

But I think the lethal drug injections used at executions, that compound , is all that should be used for mass euthanasia.

Why? Because its not the sadist show for voyeurs on Mars.

Re: NETHERLANDS DISPATCHES MOBILE-EUTHANASIA UNITS
Having lost my dog and an elderly relative within days of each other last month, I have to say that I wish humans in this country had the option of dying with the same dignity that we afford our animals. Once quality of life is lost in a terminal illness, it is time to go, in my opinion....
