Evolution in the bible, says Vatican - Catholic Church defends Charles Darwin
THE Vatican has issued a stout defence of Charles Darwin, voicing strong criticism of Christian fundamentalists who reject his theory of evolution and interpret the biblical account of creation literally.

Cardinal Paul Poupard, head of the Pontifical Council for Culture, said the Genesis description of how God created the universe and Darwin´s theory of evolution were "perfectly compatible" if the Bible were read correctly.

His statement was a clear attack on creationist campaigners in the US, who see evolution and the Genesis account as mutually exclusive.

"The fundamentalists want to give a scientific meaning to words that had no scientific aim," he said at a Vatican press conference. He said the real message in Genesis was that "the universe didn´t make itself and had a creator".

This idea was part of theology, Cardinal Poupard emphasised, while the precise details of how creation and the development of the species came about belonged to a different realm - science. Cardinal Poupard said that it was important for Catholic believers to know how science saw things so as to "understand things better".

His statements were interpreted in Italy as a rejection of the "intelligent design" view, which says the universe is so complex that some higher being must have designed every detail.

Well, isn´t that precious? Darwinism is junk science, with very little to offer in understanding where we came from.
Pretty amazing someone could be so far behind the times as to think Darwin´s silly screed is somehow "scientific".

Well, Rome no longer swears by the truth of the Bible, so what authority they have to tell what is right and wrong?

lets disect this turd posted by this unfortunate victim of inbreeding.

he calls darwinism "junk science" but why do virtually every credible bio scientist in the known universe believe its the way life evolved on earth? remember it's not just darwin anymore. it's virtually everyone who recieves a degree in biology. don't waste time citing religious nut jobs like your self as a credible witness for creation. you don't have the credentials.ask an astrophysisist if he believes in evolution. don't expect him to quote from the bible because gatting a degree in astrophysics requires an iq over 70. ask a doctor. ask a mathemetician.ask a zoologist. your gonna get the same answer. ask a religious kook like your self and your gonna get shit. garbage in garbage out.
your religion is garbage. you don't really believe in santa, uh i meant jesus, same thing , do you?

Isn't it funny how they, all of a sudden, embrace science? How many innocent scientists did they burn at the stake for heresy?

true that! but the bright side is that they are accepting science instead of continuing to deny plain facts becuse it doesn't fit their long held erroneous beliefs.

It never did.
In historical times very few people ever did.

Just the one. [link to en.wikipedia.org]
And not for his science.

The church has a tradition of studying science.
They have there own observatories, and there are the Jesuits

Re: Evolution in the bible, says Vatican - Catholic Church defends Charles Darwin
It seems odd to me that the big wigs in the Catholic Church are so quick to defend Charles Darwin's theory of evolution instead of examining the evidence on both isles of scientific thought from qualified men whose arguments include the basis for creation by a Creator.

"Numerous types of 'genes', controlling in a complex and not-yet-understood way (of) the various physical characteristics of the oragnism, can combine and 'recombine' is various ways to generate a great variety of individual features, so that no two individuals are ever exactly alike....

There is no evidence whatever that such limited horizontal changes ever become the unlimited vertical changes required for real evolution to take place. 'Microevolution', as some call this type of change, has no demonstrated connection with 'macroevolution', at least as far as any actual physical evidence goes. Within all human history, there has never been one single example of any kind of organism evolving into a truly new 'species' at the same level...."

The above would indicate that how the world came to be, and everthing in it, demands further scientific investigation, and the Vatican should not be the first to decide the issue. As far as I'm concerned, the concept of evolution fits in nicely with the plan of the NWO to eliminate God in our lives, denying Him credit where credit is due. At any rate, the individual should decide for themselves whether the evidence shows either the truth that God created as it is written, or go ahead and accept a theory of creation that has never been proven.

Evidence for macro-evolution. [link to talkorigins.org]

There is no such thing as creationist 'science'.
It's wishful thinking, nothing more.

The faith-based side has shifted from using the term "creationism" to
using "intelligent design". So their argument has... evolved." - Iain Banks

Re: Evolution in the bible, says Vatican - Catholic Church defends Charles Darwin
No one ever seems to get the message. The Bible is not a scientific treatise. The accounts therein are to be accepted by faith. Science requires the criteria of validity to accept any observation or experiment. If it is a laboratory experiment, the results must be reproducible. I have worked in this field all my life. Darwin is accepted by the majority of the scientific community because his explanations fit the available facts, not because of some silly mandate from the "Vatican." This new idea called "intelligent design" is completely unscientific. Either you believe in a creator God or you don't. Either you accept scientific observations or you don't. Science cannot bend to appease religion, and vice versa. Where do you stand?

Re: Evolution in the bible, says Vatican - Catholic Church defends Charles Darwin
The "science" of evolution is based on pure theory and made-up evidence. It has been shown to be hoaxed over and over again.

As far as the majority of scientists going along with the creed of evolution, they cannot teach any other because they fear for their jobs. That's a fact. It's like prating the party line under communism. Ah, comrad, communism is good, capitalism is bad. Could anything else be taught? Uh...no.

Have you EVER heard a good televised public debate between scientists of the Creation persuasion vs the secular scientific point of view? I've been waiting a looooong, long time for such an event. It ainta gonna happen.

Creationism doesn't counteract evolution. The scientific theory you are looking for is called abiogenesis, which as the name implies, is how life started from non-life. Most christians have taken to accepting the theory of evolution, but they simply claim that it was designed that way by god. Convenient huh? whatever
