I'm this close to moving up to North Dakota by a friend of mine, live in a trailer and work in the oil fields.

I hear they're hiring.

if you are a white male you will not find work, simple as that even if there are openings
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12156358

I'm a white male.

Care to explain why it's working against me?

If I could scrape together enough money, I would love to move.

I'm recently divorced too, so I'm free to go anywhere.

I just need to get my feed underneath me again.
 Quoting: Blue Dwarf

why? because you're not female or a minority...you wanna know something our family business was told we need to hire a minority or a woman if we hire someone new if we are to keep doing business with this nonprofit... we do the best job in the area but that's not important to them, you can thank the gov't for thier intervention however you like. that's why "overqualified" be came a new term to dismiss elidgiblilty for a job. a job isn't just a job anymore, it's a token of race and gender warefare.

Yeah that will work.

Im an Aussie and I too am willing to do anything for work but no luck after five months of solid job hunting..

BUT...if you are a nip..a kiwi..or a yank or canadian..all you have to do is turn up here and say "I want a job" and not only do you get a job right away but the govt will even give you a house and a car and furniture and all that.

Re: NO job is beneath me — yet, I'm unable to land anything!
I was out of work for six months last year, on unemployment, and applying for many, many job openings in my field the whole time.

In all that time I got two callbacks and one interview. The interview was for a temporary, seasonal job in a field I have 17 years of experience in, I did not get the job.

The job I ended up getting was at a friend's business for a position that was never listed anywhere, I am cleaning there part time, but through that job I heard of another cleaning job which was also not listed anywhere, so now I have two part time jobs, it is very physically demanding and today was my first day off in over a month, but hey, it beats paying to go to a gym to work out.

Both jobs are in very cool places and the people at both places are really great. Cleaning isn't bad if you can handle it physically, it has been kind of challenging for me, luckily I had been doing exercises regularly the whole time I was out of work so that working again wouldn't be such a shock.

Sorry to ramble, just wanted to say it was more my efforts at trying to have a social life while I was unemployed, that paid off, more than all the resumes I wrote and re-wrote or all the sites I registered with or all the classes I went to at the job center, etc.

I was seriously starting to worry that no one would ever hire me again. I am 50 and I do everything I can to compensate for that, lost about 20 lbs this year, super physically fit, try to keep up with fashion, cover the grey, all of that as much as possible.

The job market is tough to the point of being frightening, that's for sure. And I know now you can get laid off when you least expect it, best not to be complacent.

I worked really hard on starting a couple of business ideas, but all of that is still on the drawing board, and being worked on on the side.

OP I wish you the best of luck. Don't be above food stamps, you've paid taxes your whole life, it's your own money they make you jump through hoops to get back.

If you have nothing to offer because the globalists outsourced your job then it's time to be creative and consider being a conspiracy theorist.

If you get very close to the truth maybe they'll start throwing some money at you to shut you up. Spread the word and look for donations to keep you going.

They are throwing millions of intelligent Americans out of work. Can you imagine all of them spreading the news about World Government and their plans to exterminate the population.

Most of the responses in this thread just make me even more depressed.

BUT, I do appreciate the few positive ones.

All I can do is keep trying.

The thing I actually fear the most, is if push comes to shove and my situation gets worse where I'm unable to pay rent, I really, really, really don't want to move in with my parents.

They've offered.

But I don't want to be that guy.

I really want to figure this out on my own.

Now try an 18 year old son, and see what happens.

YOU, sir, are just another excuse-finding laggard, precisely the kind of person I would NOT hire.

When I am interviewing applicants, I look for signs of different red flags that tell me not to hire the person. One of those flags is ACCOUNTABILITY.

OP acknowledged twice in this thread that he is doing something wrong but doesn't know what. By doing so, that tells me he is accepting responsibility and accountability for the results he is seeing. You, though, have twice shifted blame off yourself and pointed at some other reason for your unemployment....No accountability.

As a long time employer myself that has hired/trained/fired hundreds of people over 15 years, I KNOW what makes an employee immediately stand out above a crowd of job applicants and I KNOW what intrigues an employer versus what turns an employer off.

I hire and train people with NO experience, so job history is only part of what I look at. I look for several indicators that signal to me the person is a likely good prospect. My indicators are very reasonable, yet MOST people I look at do not come close. The select few that do are my shining stars.

Be advised, people.

This forum is crawling with disinfo shills, whose job is to convince you that things are not really as bad as they seem. Their job is to try and convince you that YOU are the problem, and not the current environment.

Banana republic dictators have been using this propaganda tactic for as long as there's been civilizations. And the internet is chocked full of SHILLS who's job is to convince you that things are much better then they actually are.

They don't NEED a job themselves, because YOUR tax money pays their salaries. They "earn" their daily bread off of YOUR backs, while lying to you is their job.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12155839

As an employer, I myself have worked longer, harder and have made more sacrifices than any of all my employees combined. YOU are the shill here and you sound like the OWS type.

Re: NO job is beneath me — yet, I'm unable to land anything!
So, here's my quick story.

My unemployment has run out, and my savings are drained.

I'm getting extremely worried about how I'm going to pay for anything, food being the most important thing right now.

I normally work in hospitality as a cook, but I have been applying at all sorts of jobs; everything and anything I can think of because this time of year is slow when it comes to restaurants hiring new staff—at least in my neck of the woods.

I'm willing to clean shitty toilets, I'm willing to even flip burgers at fast food joints (even though I'd prefer to work in higher end restaurant kitchens). I'm willing to clean houses, paint fences, be a clerk at a gas station.

But no luck.

Before I got into cooking, I was in IT and that work history is still present on my resume. I'm beginning to think it's working against me.

I get rejection letter after rejection letter (or emails). Most of the time, I get no responses. When I do get a response, it's usually "you're overqualified."

I'm 33 years old, so it's not my age.

I'm someone who wants to work, who is willing to take just about any job I can get, but this economy is fucking me over.

I get irritated on here sometimes when I read about people telling others to take whatever job they can find and stop being lazy.

Well, I'm one of those people who is trying to land any job, but with no luck.

What the fuck is going on?

If I don't find something soon, I may be living in my car.

At least you have a car. I was let go Dec 21st, 2010. Still can't find shit. Oh, and since I had just moved to the state, I didn't have a year of instate working history so can't collect unemployment.

Apply everywhere and get the atypical, "We'll let you know..."

Don't lie, cheat, steal or fuck anyone over to get by. I am white though; German decent with Blonde hair and Blue eyes. Maybe that's the problem?

I get sales calls from people, and when when I tell them politely "No thank you," they curse me out and hang up on me. Last I checked, sales calls required a little bit of customer service. How are these people able to hold jobs, yet I can't find one?

Being a veteran doesn't even help.

Congrats on your job finding, though. At least someone is on tract to a better situation.

Jobs are for losers and are only slightly better than welfare because you're still dependent on the whims of others for your livlihood. Learn to make your own money without a job or a boss and you'll never go back to wage slavery again.

Tailor your work history for what you are applying for. The IT stuff may hurt you if people incorrectly assume that what you are looking for now is a filler until you can get another IT job. You can still use those dates and the business names but leave it vague. They can assume you were a cook or cleaner or whatever for the company instead.

Well, I like to cook professionally.

It would be nice to one day own a restaurant.

But that's not possible right now. Plus, I'm not ready to own a restaurant. A foundation of experience is being built from working in kitchens and observing the business being ran.

Restaurants fail far more often than succeed.

I want to put myself in the best possible situation when I decide to jump into that sort of business venture.

Not all of us are in position to work for ourselves right now.

I've accepted that reality.

You should too.

Cause' you come off sounding like a dick.

Used to work in IT as well. This hopium economy is running on fumes.

I'm using sports betting as my major income source right now. I also have a small ebay store (although I wouldn't recommend that as a primary source).
