NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The final deployment of the USS Enterprise got underway three days ago, but the ship and her crew are still working off the Virginia-North Carolina coasts.

Pilots abroad the vessel have to be recertified to land and take-off from the flight deck. The process is known as carrier qualifications or CQ and they must be done before the Enterprise can steam east for the Mediterranean Sea.

Commanding Officer Captain Bill Hamilton said, "We're kind of a prisoner to the wind when we want to fly. The ship has to turn into the wind..."

In 1983 the Marine Barracks at Beirut International Airport was bombed. A truck loaded with explosives went off killing 242 US Marines.

The entire four story building in which they were quartered collapsed, simultaneously an explosion blew up a French military barracks a few kilometers away, killing 56 French troops.

It was later confirmed that Israel had prior knowledge of both attacks, and is suspected of engineering them because sources close to the investigation stated that the fuses used on the explosives which were found at the scene were of the type known to be used by Israel at the time. Israel offered the Marines medical assistance which was refused.

For some time Israel had imposed a huge import tax on merchandise coming from Lebanon, which naturally resulted in smuggling to evade it. President Obama is warning Iran that the window for a diplomatic resolution to the standoff over Iran’s alleged nuclear activities is "shrinking." Obama made the comment during a news conference with British Prime Minister David Cameron.

President Obama: "In the past there’s been a tendency for Iran in these negotiations with the P-5-plus-1 to delay, to stall, to do a lot of talking but not actually move the ball forward. Majority of Israel security cabinet ‘backs’ Iran strike – report

Most members of Israel’s security cabinet support an attack on Iran to end its nuclear program, an Israeli newspaper said on Thursday. Influential columnist Ben Caspit wrote in the Maariv daily that a majority of the 14-member security cabinet was leaning in favour of a pre-emptive strike on Tehran’s nuclear facilities. At this point eight ministers “tend to support” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak Barak’s position, who favour the strike, Caspit said. Six others object to the move. The assessments are based on talks between the PM and his ministers. The security cabinet has not yet held a decisive meeting on the issue.
