Additionally, you can always check with your local store’s meat department for assistance in identifying our in-store ground beef. BJ’s: At BJ’s, we have decided to eliminate ground beef products that contain boneless lean beef trimmings (BLBT) or lean finely textured beef (LFTB), which has been called “pink slime” in recent media reports. Beginning April 7, BJ’s will only offer fresh ground meet that is BLBT or LFTB free. BLBT or LFTB free frozen ground beef will be available by April 20. As always, BJ’s will continue to offer fresh all-natural NatureSource ground beef and frozen Earth’s Pride ground beef which are and have always been BLBT and LFTB free. Food Lion: Food Lion does not add lean finely textured beef (LFTB) to the ground beef we produce in our stores. Kroger: The Kroger Co. regarding pink slime in our beef. The Kroger Co does not use transglutaminase (currently nicknamed “meat glue”) or trimmings (currently nicknamed “pink slime”) in any of its meat or poultry products per our Kroger Co Corporate Food Technology Senior Scientists. The ground beef you find at your local Kroger has been purchased from USDA-approved suppliers who are required to follow all federal guidelines during the production of ground beef to ensure food safety and quality. (In other words, Kroger's may not use pink slime in their store ground meat, but other meat sold in their store may contain it). Price Chopper: Price Chopper does not buy, use or sell any fresh ground beef that has been ammoniated; nor do we employ FLTB or BLBT as fillers for our fresh ground beef. We have one main beef supplier whose meat we grind fresh in-store several times daily – JBS Swift. We have documentation from JBS Swift that the fresh beef we purchase from them to grind in our stores does not include ammoniated product, FLTB or BLBT. As a point of interest, suppliers of our frozen ground beef patties have also confirmed that they do not incorporate ‘pink slime’ into the products that we purchase from them. Publix: According to our Corporate Purchase Department, we do not use finely textured beef (pink slime) in our fresh ground beef. Our written spec specifically calls out that it is not approved for our product. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7717283 ground and packaged by store good . . . ground and packaged in a factory bad. . . You're probably correct. I bought some chopped beef from one of the discount type grocery stores and noticed something odd about it. I left it, unfrozen in the fridge and it got pushed toward the back, so I kind of lost track of it for about 10 days. It should have stared to discolor, but it didn't. I tossed it and never bought it again. It was also pre-packaged. Yuck. |

How are you supposed to cook that? One end burns, the other isn't even done yet. I've seen blue and green stuff in their hamburger too. Whole chinks of it. Kroger disgusts me. Their store brand food is awful. No flavor at all. I did a taste test with her friends with sharp cheddar, mild, swiss, monterey jack and nobody could tell the difference. All just fatty stuff with different names. Hate that damn place. |
