Quoting: Cat Mouth ================================= Last year marked the 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War, a milestone commemorated by The Atlantic in a special issue (now available online). Although photography was still in its infancy, war correspondents produced thousands of images, bringing the harsh realities of the frontlines to those on the home front in a new and visceral way. As brother fought brother and the nation's future grew uncertain, the public appetite for information was fed by these images from the trenches, rivers, farms, and cities that became fields of battle. We and you ought not pull on the ends of a rope in which you have tied the knots of war. Because the more the two of us pull the tighter the knot will be tied. And then it will be necessary to cut that knot, and what that would mean is not for me to explain to you. I have participated in two wars and know that war ends when it has rolled through cities and villages, everywhere sowing death and destruction. For such is the logic of war. If people do not display wisdom they will clash like blind moles and then mutual annihilation will commence. - Khrushchev I'm only human, it's my biggest flaw. We must all realize a sink a chair and a pillow are all luxuries of home and a soldiers helmet takes the place of all three. |

Eagle # 1 User ID: 11573264 ![]() 03/18/2012 03:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was in the Civil War, fought on the side of the South for independence from Northern Tyranny/control of the South. Been to Gettysburg, Antetiem and other sites, but the one that sent shivers up my spine was where the CT regiments on the Northern approaches of the city met the attacking forces of Lee's Army on the first day of battle. July 1st, 1863. I think that is where I died; to be reincarnated twice more. Other than that, only remember being 'third man back' in Alexander the Greats phalanx, holding onto one of the spears that stopped any attacking men from the front. Eagle |

[link to www.theatlantic.com] If you look at some of those pictures closely they have weird effects, it looks like ghostly people in places, you can see through them. First one was two men by the water edge, then more as you go down, some of or most parts of the picture seem normal until the ones you can see through! Sorry I got a headache These are the times that tries men's and women's souls! May we come though it victorious! |
