The civilian population here maintains more arms than all the world's armies COMBINED! And unlike Iraq, we have lots and lots of people who are true marksmen. During the cold war the Russians had a plan to drop airborne troops into the southern reaches of Canada and invade the Nothern most part of the US. The plan was scuttled not because of the US Army or Airforce but because the Russians themselves knew their troops would be wiped out within weeks because of Americans and their rifles. Some rednecks shooting at paper targets and tin cans do not a militia make. Some guy running around Montana hiding under rocks while covered in green paint does not a militant make. A kid playing Modern Warfare is not a military strategist. If you collect our militaty-trained civilians and get 10/20/50% to fight against the same military that trained them spread across 50 states without proper organization, we still have nothing. And the Soviets were scared of a nuclear onslaught they could not compete against. Want to try something... Turn off your computer. Turn off you telephones. Turn off your HAM radio. Turn off your television (just because). Now coordinate a meeting with groups of strangers 2 cities, 2 counties and 2 states away. |
