There is not Republican campaign to deny women access to reproductive healthcare. Not a single bill anywhere in the US exists. There is a Democrat campaign to force people with strongly held religious views to pay for others birth control pills.

In Texas, the Republicans just tried to shift the money away from Planned Parenthood, who is currently being sued in whistle blower lawsuit for defrauding the Federal Government. It seemed that they liked to take in tons of money and not provide any services to the women who needed it.

The plan was to move the money to agencies and doctors outside of Planned Murderhood who actually were available to help women. Instead, it was OBAMA who cut off all funding to the state of Texas for reproductive healthcare.

What is it about you progressives? Always throwing the facts in the garbage and slandering people?

Then...the fun really starts. No matter where the congressman goes - somebody is going to make fun of him and tease him about it. It's making people talk about it. The women I know are becoming obesessed with this "war on women" and are now following what the politicians are doing and spreading the word.

And it absolutely is a war on women.

We like conspiracy theories around here right? Take a look around the entertainment world and look at what they're showing us.

There's a subtle movement to go back to before the feminist movement. The most obvious is Mad Men. Do you know how many girls now think that it's ok for men to treat women the way they do on that show? They are actually emulating the women. It's slight, it's subtle, but it's happening.

Take the subtle brainwashing and combine it with all the stupid bills trying to be passed - and just listen to people. People are starting to say that if women would never have entered the workplace, there'd be jobs for all the unemployed men and the divorce rate would never have reached as high.

There's a very clear trend to roll back the clock 50 years. They are starting to blame women for all the ills of society.

...and that's just beginning of the rabbit hole.

Will the "people with strongly held religious views to pay for others birth control pills" foot the welfare bill for all of these unwanted babies?

I've been saying that about the pro-lifers who picket abortion clinics for years! If you're going to take a stand - then why aren't you offering to adopt the babies or at least offer to help the mom out in raising the baby.

On the BC issue - they really need to educate themselves on how the various methods of birth control work. Except for maybe the morning after pill - all methods prevent an egg from being fertilized...so there is no "killed baby".

What they're really trying to legislate is sex. And news flash...that ain't never gonna work.

I appreciate your even keel, Copernica. I can hardly believe the level of misogyny/ignorance on this site, and in some parts of the government/country, that I have to control my defensiveness.

It is a slippery-slope to agree with the government legislating a woman's health. How can people who agree with the government even entering into these issues, to limit abortions, making this abortion legal, that one not legal, ...how can they not see where that would lead, especially in this dark time when our human rights are being chipped away at, at an alarming rate? The next time, the government's agenda to control may affect YOU --- RFID anyone?

Even though I am one who believes strongly that life begins when a soul enters a VIABLE body (that is, near the end of a pregnancy term), I agree that abortion is not ideal. However, it must be an option, as long as we continue to

--have juvenile attitudes in this country about sex (Not even being able to talk to one's own children about sex is absurd!),

--continue to keep our heads in the sand that EVERYONE is indeed HAVING sex, especially young people;

--continue to not offer birth control resources without shame,

--judge young women who become pregnant

As far as your comment that women are starting to pay attention to the restrictions coming down from the legislature, I do hope you are right. Many Christian women have of course had abortions throughout the ages, as a form of birth control. Well almost...I do have a problem with partial birth abortions. I'm also uncomfortable with them after the 1st trimester (except for when the baby isn't going to be viable). Baby's born in the 4th month can survive and do survive and can be healthy. I figure if you can't make your mind up in 3 months....you've committed to the pregnancy and your only alternative is to give the baby up for adoption.

That said, I think a lot of people have forgotten what happened before legalized abortion. Women have ALWAYS aborted babies. Many died from the complications. Legalizing it allowed the same women to have it done safely. (And no, I don't like that too many are using it as birth control!)

Another piece that no one talks about is infanticide. Unwanted babies were killed regularly throughout history. Take abortion choices away and believe me, it will once again be common place.

My stand ultimately is that until every child currently born is in a loving, safe home and well fed and tended....abortion is the least of our evils and by far the least cruel.

Which takes me to another question for pro-lifers: If Heaven is so wonderful, and an unborn child so innocent - why is abortion so bad? Doesn't God take them back? For the new agey types: Isn't it part of that souls and that of the mother's journey? Wouldn't it be part of the contract we agree to before we begin a new life? Who are we to stand in the way of those lessons?
