"Tax Us. Canada's Worth It"
Excerpt:

A group of doctors is calling on federal and provincial governments to raise income taxes levied on high-income (over $100,000/yr) Canadians.

They are launching a campaign to get support for the idea, using the slogan "Tax us. Canada's worth it."

--------------

That's fine if they want the wealthy to pay more, but my problem with the government is their blatant mismanagement of our tax dollars whether you are rich or middle or poor.

We all should be holding them accountable.

I wonder how many millions of dollars they will "find" (it was lost but now it's found) this year.

So tax the rich is called the socialist, by corollary then, tax the poor means capitalist, eh?

Not sure which one I'm more inclined to, but I'm sure that making 100k/year is something that I won't be doing in this lifetime. LOL~

None of us should hand over tax money without having a say in how it's spent. It is squandered in Canada on $2M fake lakes, $2B+ on G20, parliamentary fat cats and super prisons for a dropping crime rate.

I love my country but I hate my government.

Pretty much, yeah. It's amazing how the "Tea Party" movement has convinced many people that barely have two nickels to rub together themselves, to actually vote AGAINST their own interests. It's not a like a "tax cut" is going to give some dumb hick making $20K a year any more money in his pocket but hey, at least he didn't vote for a "socialist" and that's all that matters.

"Capitalism" in this day and age seems to mean: "socialize the risk, privatize the rewards."

The G20 was nowhere near $2B... More like $800 million to $1 billion and it was out turn to host it.

As for the prisons, it's not a glamourous issue and no government really wants to spend money on them, but many of our institutions have decayed to the point that the UN was considering whether or not being confined in one constituted "cruel and unusual punishment."

Declining crime or not, there is still crime and if we want to keep people who actually deserve to be behind bars imprisoned longer we need to have the space for them. These two-year sentences for child rape and house arrest for serious offenses have got to stop.

The Graham James case has made us all take a second look at the justice system. No wonder victims don't report the crime, it's not worth the public humiliation to have your abuser receive such a weak sentence.

You receive a longer sentence for growing pot now than for molesting kids.

We are not moving in a positive direction.

Harper is single-handedly injecting the prison industrial complex with steroids by building super prisons for a dropping crime rate, then introducing draconian crime bill legislation to fill those prisons. It's nothing less than one big make work project at the expense of Canadian dollars and freedoms.

Harper is a criminal and should be the first inmate registered in one of his lovely new prisons.

I'm not "social engineered" and am not a socialist. However, this attitude that government is irrelevant and "leave me alone and I'll leave you alone" has long been disproven.

The whole reason there is a "government tit" in the first place is that when left to their own devices people don't all just automatically start businesses and create wealth. Some do and they would thrive in a libertarian society. The rest would be wretchedly poor, living from hand-to-mouth like in the 1850s.

Life basically sucked ass for anyone who was not a "robber baron" or royalty back in those days. Even in the early 20th century a lot of factory work would make what is going on at Chinese electronics firms look like paradise by comparison until unions and labour laws were enacted.

Income over $640,000 and less than $1.85 million would be hit with an additional three per cent and income over $1.85 million would be subject to an additional surtax of six per cent.

The group estimates that the federal government would earn an extra $3.5 billion a year and Ontario would raise an extra $1.7 billion.

I have always believed that ANY tax system should allow those paying taxes to OPT-IN and OPT-OUT of where they want their money spent. They would still have to pay the same overall percentage, but could say NOT support military for example.

I realize there would have to be a checks and balances to keep from over inflating and killing some critical needs, but I think many citizens would like to have a "SAY" in where their money goes.

LOL. And you think you haven't been completely brainwashed?

What about all the people that IMMIGRATED from Europe to the the United States and WANTED to work for the 'evil robber barons?'

Re: "Tax Us. Canada's Worth It"
...

So tax the rich is called the socialist, by corollary then, tax the poor means capitalist, eh?

Not sure which one I'm more inclined to, but I'm sure that making 100k/year is something that I won't be doing in this lifetime. LOL~

Tax everyone less, only spend on essential things. The rest is Socilaism and Social Engineering. Looks like you have been Socila Engineered already.

Anyone that's for Socialism is an uneducated idiot that probably just won't make it in life.
